Hi Everyone, first time on the forum. I was wondering if anybody may be able to shed some light on if slip yoke clunk that seems to be common in these trucks does any real damage or if it is just a nuisance. I have just over 2000 miles on my truck and hear a little thunk /pop after I come to a complete stop. I noticed the other day on the downshift that there was a more prounounced thunk, but I’m not sure if this was the tranny quickly downshifting because t was in the wrong gear. It was also insanely humid and air temp was in the 90s. I also know that axle wrap is a common issue in these trucks as well. Does anyone know if this does any damage as well?

Take to dealer and have them tighten your ubolts on the leafs or do it yourself

It’s a function of the shifting behavior where it has a delayed downshift to 1st. This can be eradicated with OVTune (in my case anyway) where I never feel that delayed clunk feeling. Otherwise the new TSB for the ECU calibration which you can find several threads on does seem to soften it and it doesn’t happen as often.

That said I doubt it’s hurting anything given most of these trucks do it and I haven’t seen much if any drivetrain failures in the last couple of years...

Thanks everyone, appreciate it. I always thought it was the tranny shifting into neutral after I stopped. I can’t even hear it when my radio is on and can barely feel it. I can live with it because it’s barely noticeable, but couldn’t live with it if it was doing any real damage. I’ll just see if I can get the greaseable items serviced at my 5K oil change and torque the u bolts myself. Eventually I’ll get some stronger springs and see if that does anything down the road.

There are a couple Zerks on the Front Driveshaft that you can grease, that may help a little.
