Miss having wild peaks, great in snow and excellent on wet pavement which is my most often encountered adverse driving condition where I’m at.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Another highway closed in BC today. This one the connector between Kelowna and Merritt. The snowplows are stuck as well.

Normally a 70mph limit. There is snow, and then there is that other snow you have not driven yet.

Until you have driven regularly in snow and ice and at temps ranging from -40c to zero, you have a lot to experience still. The -40c stuff the easiest to drive in since there is really no humidity at that temperature. The zero stuff the kind you see with people sliding backwards down hills with the brakes applied. Awesome skating rink weather. No joke. We used to do that when I was a kid. The road in front of our house would often be perfect for playing ice hockey.

I laugh at drivers who think they are great snow drivers, and you see them whipping down the road without a care in the world.

All it takes is than one spot that was more slick than the previous several miles, and off you go over the side. Here in BC off the side can often mean down a cliff to your death.

Some good reading here. This is part of the Coquihalla highway that is used for the weekly TV program "Highway to Hell".

Slippery and high speed belong in the bedroom, not on the road. Slow down. Don't shift into 4WD above about 50 MPH, and the general rule is this: if the conditions make you feel that you need 4WD you shouldn't be going fast.

4 wheel/all wheel drive does not mean all wheel/4 wheel stop, and it's not being able to stop that will get you into trouble.

Yeah those hills in Kamloops are an absolute bitch in winter. Anyone new to it typically find themselves glued to the bumper of the guy in front of them, after they first slide for 5 car lengths at 5kmh futilely hitting the brake.

That is a great example of wet snow at or just below the freezing mark, that turns to ice that few vehicles can manage. Much easier to drive though 10 inches of snow at -30c than 2 inches of that stuff at near freezing temps.

You hit that ice going over 10mph and you are a goner. We had a lot of that last year in Kelowna. Jeez, me in 4-hi, 500 poinds of sand in the back and good snow tires. Driving on the flats with no hill, and could not go over 10mph without going sideways. At least everyone here that time figured it out and were white knuckle driving, at 10mph…

Being retired yet still driving the wife to work i am constantly passed by people speeding.

Im no slowpoke but my sage advice is: get up a half hour earlier, enjoy a nice breakfast and on your nice leasurely drive make note of the lemmings hurrying to sea.
Once ur older… you will get it.
