Does anyone know what might be causing my Tacoma to slip into first gear when coming to a stop? It feels absolutely terrible and can't be normal. Doesn't happen all the time but atleast a couple times a day. Was also wondering if anyone else has experienced harsh jerking motion when truck is cold and shifting from P to D. Only happens when it's cold but sometimes it actually is so harsh the truck moves forward abit.

    Thanks for any info!

This is actually pretty common, my sr5 always did that but I didn’t care lol.

After a few months, all of my transmission issues stopped. I ended up trading for an MT... :poking:

as far as the last part when the truck is cold it is idling higher and yes will move on its own.
as far as the first part mine sometimes slams into first gear when coming to a stop.

Known issues. 1st gear clunk (downshift) when coming to a stop. Usually when truck hasn't warmed up all the way yet. Sometimes is just a noise & other times it's a bang with a push forward.

P to D is usually because of high idle from warming up still. Sometimes will take a few seconds to shift & sometimes will bang into gear. Depends on how the truck wakes up in the morning kinda like me.

Really when thinking about it these are issues that seem to come up a lot during the colder months. For decades I have noticed these kinda things across all different brands of vehicles
