Maintenance history? These trucks need plugs every 30k or so.

Will putting a higher octane do any damage or will it help ?

A lot of people will tell you no. I'll say yes. I have 127,000 on mine with religeous maint. done by myself all of the time. I get pinging every so often. I also run lucas fuel injector cleaner through which seems to help for some reason. The only gas my truck has ever had was Shell, Sunoco, or Mobil. Nothing else. Every so often it seems to get worse and I'll run 93 for a week or so.

First let me say thank you for your reply ! Here in Arizona we have chevron , shell , QT and other cheeper versions . I do like chevron and QT . Would either of them be compatible to what you run ? I was thinking of trying 89 to see if it helps . What's your take ?

Try a bottle of red heat11E341DE-EFC4-4582-A6B3-2076472AD5DD.jpg Then maybe a gunk 5 minute flush then let it drain overnight fill with oil and change the plugs. Clean the maf, too. Edit: Man, that’s a nice ride you’ve got there. Make sure all the little vacuum lines aren’t dry rotted and replace them if necessary

    Edit : The ping / knock isn't bad . It's intermittent .

Plugged vvt screen, maybe (keep in mind I’m not a mechanic just an idiot) but my truck has been running well since I cleaned the maf 2 years ago and fixed a little vacuum leak. I run 87 octane. Good luck! I love your truck!

try a higher octane gas.......i was using 87 for the longest time and had the same issue, intermittent knocking and pinging. Changed to 92 and it stopped. Also feels more solid accelerating......something cheap to try

You’re sure it’s not your driveshaft center bearing?
