Hey folks my name is Matt. I'm new here but please allow me to share with you folks a few photos of my new 2019 Taco that I bought in April, fresh from the San Antonio plant in Tx. Just this morning while installing my new Flowmaster 40 my mechanic let me walk under the truck in his bay. My eyes were immediately drawn to many sloppy swaths of what look like a tan sealant, painted sloppily and randomly on both sides all over the frame. How did this get past Toyota's QC? My exhaust guy just called me to share pics of a Taco like mine on their rack. Want to guess? That truck had the same sloppy tan lines as mine! Apparently this is widespread. Has anyone out there come across this sloppiness? Taco owners I wouldn't panic but you may want to do a visual down there on yours and maybe find out for yourselves. I would think resale value could be totally compromised. A new buyer should be suspicious. I would be suspicious. What's underneath that and why so sloppy? Anybody?

If that’s coming from the factory this just solidifies that 3rd gens have frame issues as well.

Jesus that's sloppy, though I don't think my 2018 has any at all on it.

OP I'll give you $300 for the truck right now. Probably more than you'll get for that POS anywhere else.

I was actually looking at the shit welds on your new exhaust...

    Oh, and welcome to TW!

I just crawled under mine I have the same stuff on the left side of the frame towards the rear but nothing on the right side like in pic 2 however I found tons of black sealant under the cab around the tunnel. BTW mine is a 2019 built date.

    My '16 sure doesn't...
If I had to hazard a guess, it would have something to do with NVH.

So we complain about frames rusting and then complain when the sealant used to help keep the frame from rusting doesn't look pretty. Makes complete sense on TW.

I think its more of the fact that it looks like some 4 year old took drywall compound and slathered it all over the frame.... at least paint that shit to match, looks like 1996 honda civic covered in bondo with half a body kit and only the rear wheels are 18s and the front are steel wheels.

I would not worry about the resale on a Tacoma they hold there value pretty well:) However I have 2 agree on the welding on the exhaust my Pet Monkey could do a better job kinda reminds me of British Leyland back in 1970.

It's definitely in the spots where rust likes to start.

It’s just covering the welds for the reinforcements. It’s a frame not a piece of art, who cares what it looks like

Damn. It's the bottom of the truck. 1st world issue. But, of course, on TW it's a crisis

Looks like a cost effective measure to curb rust in known trouble spots...everyone would like to buy a truck that has the entire undercarriage hot dipped in zinc, making the frame very corrosion resistent....but making it very expensive as well.
