Fast??? Hmmm.... Where does [OP] live? All the roads in my state have speed limits and my Taco has never failed to reach those limits. There are many reasons I bought a truck and going fast is not one of them!! I can carry a reasonable amount of weight, I can tow a reasonable size trailer, I can keep up with traffic while carrying that weight, I can 4 wheel like a mofo, I get reasonable MPG's and I look damn good while cruising down the roads and trails..... So??? Whats wrong with a Tacoma??

Off the line 2nd gen is a tad faster. That ends after a few seconds.
0-60 3rd squeaks out ahead, and in passing 2nd gen can not keep up.
Once that 3rd hits the higher rpms 2nd gen is in the rear view.
2nd gen bogs out in the higher rpms.

I might be,, but in reality I'm old and tired and not much "New" about me but I sure do enjoy a cup of BS from time to time.

What did you expect with a naturally aspirated V6? Tacoma’s aren’t for everyone.

Haha! So true, my last truck was an 80 series (1996) as well. My 2016 3.5 Tacoma is a mclaren compared to it. All smiles here. It’s all relative.

Yeah it’s slow and shit on gas but it beats driving a Ford Ranger or v6 automatic challenger. Also these trucks get the shit beat beat out of them and just keep going. Lastly to the guy driving the F-150, you were ballless before ever driving a taco. Everyone knows you go GMC for full size.

I'm watching concrete dry for exactly that purpose.

My Kubota likes rain, but I don't.

Funny to watch so many people get upset over a post like this. Everyone’s wants and needs are different. Yes the Tacoma is slow especially an automatic but that Is the transmission likely. As others have posted sounds like the OV tune is a way to go otherwise yes, it will be a laggard but then again it can haul stuff which is good. Plus honestly it’s the nicest looking truck IMHO.

Buy a pedal commander.... the lag in the gas pedal is a major contributor to making it feel like a slug.... it actually makes if feel like a new truck....

You can bash Ford for a lot of things , but have to say their 6 cylinder ECOBOOST is one heck of a motor . Put that thing in the sport mode and that thing flat out moves for a truck . And it can haul some heavy weight . Tacoma engine is a joke .
