Hey everyone, my 2002 is having a tough time starting. I thought it was a parasitic drain, which it could be, however it seems as though it is the starter going bad. At least that's what auto zone's test box thing said.

This all being said, would a failing/failed starter cause any parasitic drain? ALSO, would it cause the engine to crank over at a VERY low speed when starting even when battery is charged?

What would be the ideal fix here? I've read that aftermarket starters aren't very good, so looking at a reman perhaps, or a kit to do my own.

Tips would be appreciated! Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It could cause a drain but it would drain the battery dead.

Battery terminals and cables are tight and clean ?? Cables not corroded under the insulation?

Pull the starter rebuild the solenoid .

Buy a Reman Starter from Your Toyota dealer of choice.

I haven't looked at the cables, the battery seems to be draining at about .7V a day or so. Left it for 3 days and it went from 13 to 11.

How old is the battery ? Some as they age don`t hold a charge like when new.

You can go through the fuse block testing circuits that should not be drawing any current.

    Using a test light .

It's a one year old Optima Yellow Top. Testes fuses with a multimeter. I feel like cables might be it. But starter is unknown age also

You can never go wrong rebuilding a starter solenoid .

I have had upgrading the battery positive and negative cables cure parasite drains.

    I use 1/0 welding cable!

    Good Luck!

    Update

Replaced cables with ones from yotacables. Awesome kit. Also replaced starter and alternator. So far so good.
