I'll check it out. What is the difference in the 4wd and 2wd Tranny?

The other question I have is will it still be automatic if I replace the transmission? If so once 4wd is cut on will it be switched to manual? I have done basic mechanical work to my truck, but I know very little about 4wd and how this will work

Is this going to be out of my league? I am unsure of what some of this is, or how the final product will come together.

Ah ok, well there's an additional shifter. I don't recall if you have to get an auto or manual tranny specifically but it needs to be an A340F or A340H.

What you're thinking of is the transfer case, that's where the additional shifter comes out of and how you control 4wd.

Although it does sound a bit difficult or out of your area to do, having 4wd makes a difference and is a must have. Perhaps pay someone to swap the parts out for you or get a friend to help out.

I might do that. That is just more money though...

Yeah but that is the trade off of it I guess. One way of looking at it is 4wd tacomas, especially the 4 door limiteds have tremendous resale value and if you were to buy one w/ 4wd you'd be looking at 16k give or take.

Now if you look at the part list I shared, and perhaps factor in some labor charges for the parts install like what, $300? Add that to the total part list (roughly) and you'd only be in it at $1000-2000.

Not to mention that these parts don't have to be all purchased at once, just start tackling the list down one by one.

Very true, hopefully I can find someone who can help. Let me ask one thing. Is it possible to keep it all automatic?

DO you have an opinion on sway bar removal? My shocks have as many miles as the truck, but I am getting new ones soon. I'd love to take it off, but should I be worried?

Yes you can keep it all automatic.
Removing the sway bar has many advantages, especially for off-roading, gives more articulation. The only issue I have with it is if you happen to get in an accident or something fails due to it being removed then that's on you.
