I'm coming from a second gen to a third gen as of a few weeks ago. First thing I noticed was how sluggish the pick up is. I was trying to gas it through the yellow light, and damn I was come on little buddy hahaa. I knew some third gens were sluggish but is this normal?? FYI I currently have a 2018 cement 4x4. Thanks all.

Yes can feel sluggish and you can scratch your head about why Toyota did this to the Tacoma... it certainly is drivable and it will get up and go once the pedal is pushed hard enough ..... I met a fella on here near where I live and installed a “vftune” this past Friday.... 200 hundred miles Iv driven with it so far and I’m amazed so far how little you need to give it throttle to make it go.... highway it’ll hold gear and it actually drives so much better at 70mph!

Had my truck since new and I learned to live with it... now it’s like driving a “new” truck again. Very pleased with it.

If you’re interested in a tune read....

There are services that people are doing that flashes your ECU. Research OVTUne or KDMAX.

I said the same thing when I got my new 2021. Came out of a RAV4 which was a very light touch on the gas. When I tried to drive the truck the same way..well let's just say it didn't work well lol. You need to be a bit heavier on the foot with these. Once I got use to the touch it needed it was a lot better, and I'm sure the truck is learning too. I'm sure a tune would really improve performance but I'm hesitant to flash the ECU on a truck that's under warranty.

The 3.5 is just an absolute dog on the bottom end unfortunately. Wait until you hook up a trailer, then it's really obvious that mistakes were made with the engine.

I always drive with ECT power on. Feels weird to drive without it so give that a try if you haven't used it yet

I'll say this one time and walk away. Low end is meant to be economical. You want power and torque, run the truck 2500 rpms and higher. Don't be scared to run this engine at 3500 to 4500 rpms...and I mean consistently for long periods of time. I do it regularly in 4Lo off-roading, or in 2Hi when towing.

I get tired of people comparing and critiquing instead of adapting and learning to use the equipment as it was engineered to be used.

One GOB's opinion and 2¢ FWIW. No offense, but I don't care if you are.

    Have a nice day. :hattip:

With you here, but that's not typically what a truck needs, try that at 4 mph towing a trailer in a customers yard. It's not there when you need it, torque.
