Admittedly, it's not a commercial work truck. But from your vehicle description, you have a vehicle for that specific purpose. If towing were my primary duty, I wouldn't be in a Tacoma.
Maybe I should have stayed out of this. Is what it is, and I honestly believe the package does what it was designed to do. If that doesn't fit your needs, you should have bought something else.

No man, you're good, it's other opinions that help with decision making. I knew the 3rd gen wasn't for me, but to listen to people say that it's way better then the 4liter, it's just a very different engine, and therefore truck, then the 2nd gen.

Don't know whats the issue, my buddies 2019 double cab just has no torque. I would of gotten another tundra if my truck ran like his.

Had more than one of those moments this past winter when hitting some snowy/slushy patches at 50 mph plus.

It's partly the gearing. But these engines also have a power band around 3500 due to their direct injection. She may not get off the line as quickly, but she has the power at speed. My old GMC Canyon got off the line much faster, but my Tacoma will go from 70-100 much easier.
:burnrubber: (Not that I would know or anything )

I noticed that around 2500 rpm these engines really come alive. Floor it at 45 mph and its got some good giddy up. Really pissed off a subaru owner the other day as he tried to shut me off from entering the interstate instead of moving over to the other lane. Truck quickly got up to 85 mph before he figured it was useless to hold me to end of the entrance ramp lane.

Depending on what area you are from I can probably find you someone to do the tune.

Oh there will be some mods all right
That's just how they are. I wanted to get a third gen so bad I tried to convince myself I even had parts bought for it. I did like 3 different test-drives and then realized I just couldn't stand the powertrain. Lots of people are completely satisfied and that's awesome, I wasn't.

And this is what a tune will help with... so it’s easier to accelerate from 0-100:D

I made the switch from an 09 TRD Sport 4x2 to the 21 TRD Sport 4x4. On paper the 21 has more power and one extra gear so it should get up and go quicker. The issue is in normal driving Toyota has this thing short shifting every gear in a race to up shift as quickly as possible to achieve fuel economy numbers. As a result it falls out of the power band and you feel like the truck is gutless.

The 2nd gen held the gears long so it did not have this issue. Solution is a tune which not only frees up some extra hp but addresses the real issue which is the short shifting.

Did you buy it used? If so, the very first thing you need to do is make sure the truck has the up to date TSB for throttle hesitation and stumble. In October or so of '18 Toyota TSB'd my truck for symptoms similar to what you describe. Post TSB made the truck drive like ECT was on all the time and sharpened up the throttle considerbly.

If you are up to date on TSB's, then look aftermarket.

This. I always use ECT when driving around town and want better performance, this mode increases the rpm’s at which the transmission shifts. No tune required for me at least, and pushing that button is free.

I recently went into the Dealer to have my recalled fuel pump taken care of on my 2019 Double cab and had them update the software to T-SB-0092-20. It was a fantastic improvement. I told them that it drove like s### and the way I drove it was that if I was at a stop light with two lanes, I wanted to be the one to zip ahead and the truck hesitated and shifted gears too much. Much better after the update

Problem is i believe he has the same latest tsb reflash as they did earlier on when i bought my truck. Can't figure why both don't perform the same. His truck reminds me of someone thats lazy.
