Hello all. I just switched from a 15 Tacoma sport to a 17 off-road. When accelerating the 17 feels sluggish compared to the 15. Anybody else notice this or am I just not used to the truck yet? Thanks

You just are used to all the low end torque in the 4.0, you have to adjust to the 3.5 by revving it higher.

The 1GR engine generates more low end torque than the 2GR. Peak numbers are similar. But the 4.0's peak comes sooner. Try engaging the ECT button and/or put your foot in it.

Do the ECT PWR mod. Every time you jump in the truck it actually feels like you have power.

Yes it is sluggish compared to the 4.0. Surprised this is not known to you being a member here since Jan 2015

Less rear end noise and I have to hunt less with the transmission to get up a hill ... I love the 3rd gen ... still liked the bus better though ..

I also went from a 15 to a 17. Couldn't stand the trans-engine combo at first. Now I don't even notice it. Just keep driving it and limit your time on this site and you will grow to love the truck.

Still have a '70 panel. With it's original, unmodified engine. And its payload capacity is still higher than the Tacoma, 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen
