Now that you have re-gapped the plugs and snugged them down properly, I recommend disconnecting the battery for a few hours to reset your ECU learning the proper firing and combustion in the engine.

    All stock, baby!
How many miles are on the truck? Perhaps a transmission service is in order.

I disconnected during the process... after cleaning up the mess, it had been around 2 hours-ish.

151,xxx - I had a complete flush done at my local SpeeDee Lube... I just found that these have no filter... just a screen... weird.

Maybe the shifting slow thing is just me not being used to this truck... I still may replace the sensors anyhoo...

So... The Taco drives fantastic now... Ran it through my ODBII test and no trans or engine faults/codes... Now getting 26 mpg at my last 76 mile jaunt (as opposed to the previous 14.5 mpg) after gapping the plugs correctly...

Now I just have to chase the shudder from the lift at takeoff.

So far I've installed the Old Man Emu shims on the carrier housing. Not sure if its could be the carrier itself? I was able to move it quite a bit. How soft is that rubber supposed to be in the carrier housing?

I also have a leaf spring shim kit I'll be installing this weekend or next.

Anyhoo… after driving for a while I bought a brand new set of NGK Iridium plugs… gapped to .044 and took it for a test… needless to say I had a significant amount of power at takeoff.
At the end of the drive the power loss came back. I ran an ODB and found that #1 had a misfire. Ordered a new set of NGK coils and they should be here by Oct 1st… tht seems to be the issue as when it’s cold it runs fantastic… after driving all day… the coils start losing their oomph… after 150,000 miles i gues its time to change them out

That coil on number 1 sounds like your issue. Previous owner could have accidentally damaged it changing the spark plugs. Sounds like progress, hoping that’s your issue :fingerscrossed:

Well, months later with no issues... Come to find out it was the fuel injectors. I took all of them out, cleaned them with injector spray while keeping the solenoid open with a 12v power supply that I rigged. This was coupled with the coils, I just bought all new NGK coils.

3.5 months later, still no shudder, no loss of power and waaaaaaaaay better mpg... Running about 17-19 mpg up here in the hills.
