not the glue spots. im talking about the actual pad that is about a foot by foot thats in the middle of the inside of the tailgate. im not talking about where the braces are attached to the panel, some of the dents on his tailgate are right where the pad is, thats why im asking if you have experience working on the padded area, or have you not seen it before?

No I can't say I know the pad you are referring to, On the older 4runner, their was reinforcement in the rear hatch that is a bitch, sometimes you can get the dent sometimes not. But you can't assume it can't be done until you give it a try.

absolutely.. then I must call out that your etiquette is in question.. but yes.. correcting the internet is tantamount to trying to do away with it all together. Seems to do more harm than good. I'll take the hit if I don't have to hear about people telling me wheat bread is better than white etc.

Looks like a factory defect to me, not that I'm surprised. Honestly, it seems like everyday Toyota is getting more and more like GM.

well I've given it a try and it cant be done.

take your truck to the dealer and tell them you want a new tailgate. dont tell them anything about anybody sitting on the tailgate or pushing against it or standing on it. tell them is just appeared out of no where.

Just because your PDR guy was unable to remove your dent does not mean no one else should ever try and remove their dent. If we always believed the person before us who said it can't be done, we would still be in the stone age.
Relate your experience, and the difficulties. This info will be helpfull when the OP is talking to someone about his repair.

FYI, I pulled my tail gate cover off today to see this pad you are referring to, I run into that stuff all the time. Similar to sound deadening, It is alittle tougher. That pad would not stop me from removing a dent, slow me down yes, stop me no.

I have one and it really pisses me off too. When it's washed the light reflects all funny off it and it looks like I smacked it with something. :S
