Looking at all the comments in this thread and thinking about this from a critical standpoint, my how far the general American society has fallen from what it used to be and stand for.

Fat people, fat standards, more, more, more, and more vehicle.

This trend of gluttony is what is a contributing cause as to what is driving us to be so lazy, entitled, and think that it is never enough.

    Not a truck...

But I DD a '94 Honda Accord MT and it's definitely a large go-kart. I can hardly see over construction pylons, traffic barriers, and hand rails. Most super lifted trucks either can't see me or misjudge how close they really are.

An 18 wheeler will push the car outside of the lane and suck it back in to the inside when passing on the highway.

It's called the "industrial revolution" and it started in the mid 18th century, lol.

Things haven't been the same since.

    From Wikipedia:

The Industrial Revolution marks a major turning point in history; almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way. In particular, average income and population began to exhibit unprecedented sustained growth. Some economists say that the major impact of the Industrial Revolution was that the standard of living for the general population began to increase consistently for the first time in history, although others have said that it did not begin to meaningfully improve until the late 19th and 20th centuries.

I bought this Tacoma because of how big it is. I was looking at full size pickups and the Tacoma was close in towing capacity as some of full size trucks with the smaller displacement engine options.

Also Toyota pickup is not a Tacoma IMO.

I miss small affordable trucks and SUVs, No idea what to buy next. Subaru Crosstrek meets most of my criteria, just isn't really captivating. 4runner is the obvious choice but it's very expensive here ($45 - $50k)

I might be in the minority but i like the size of the current Tacoma, not too big and not too small.

I agree. Perfect size. Not as gigantic as a full sized and much better than older compact and mid sized in terms of capability and comfort.

Your absolutely right except I think we have different uses . The short wheelbase of a 80s Toyota was hard to beat offroad.

    Small trucks are getting bigger?

It's obvious to me that small truck are getting bigger passenger cabins while the truck beds are getting smaller.

What's next, 3rd row seating trucks with a 3' bed?

Also, anybody else read about the new wave of safety features? Since the passengers safety has been squared away, pedestrian safety is the next frontier. I believe that is why the Tacoma front grill is so massive, and the hood is so flexible. Toyota engineers are complying with government pedestrian safety standards that are a few years in the future.

Who is this exactly news to? Lol, look at almost every car made over last 30 years, you can probably count on one hand the number of cars that aren't bigger. And all of those are enthusiast vehicles.

First gen tundra with a small v-8 would be perfect to me. If they weren't so old I'd have seriously looked at one instead of a Tacoma. Current Tacoma is close to that.

It’s almost all an issue with the cafe regulation and consumers in the us. Look at the size of world vehicles and cars not sold in the us and they haven’t changed at the same rate as the us ones have. The Land Rover is a pretty good example. It’s about the same size over a long time.

Cafe standard are linked to vehicle type and foot print. The bigger it is the less fuel efficient it has to be. Under the old standards the pt cruiser was a utility vehicle.
