I'd use a co2 in cab and dry powder for external.

Any of you guys running them in the bed worry about running into problems from them being out in the elements. I'd like to mount mine to my bed rack but I'm a little Leary of it getting messed up and not working when needed

No issue so far with mine. Not even with the paint cracking.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Thanks! I can't take all the credit I saw the setup on here. I added the second wall mount "upside down" for stability after having 1.

It's dulled up a bit in color and some of the paint was worn off by rubbing against a corner of the bed but these things are pretty hefty little guys. Fun fact: being shaken around is good for an ABC extinguisher, they can actually settle out and not spray when used if sitting for a long time.

I bought it about ten years ago from one of the local auto parts store, but can't remember which one.

If you have a chance, I'd love to see a picture of your bracket setup. I was considering something similar in that I was going to use two brackets, but your implementation is better than my idea.

at my work he have Fire extinguishers mounted on all our outdoor equipment, they sit outside 24/7 365 in all weather conditions, we have yet to have one not work when its needed. i used on the other day on a small electrical fire it it performed flawlessly. just make sure you get an all metal extinguisher and youll be fine. we also have these over all of them, they just slip over the top and the mounting bracket for the extinguisher holds it in place,

Just a note to the wise. If you use a dry powder extinguisher on your truck it will cause a never ending corrosion on the electrical connections, components and all aluminum parts. We are talking about worse than a flood car.

Normally what happens after a dry chem extinguisher is used around electronics is the electronics gets junked. I would not use one on my truck if I planned to keep it.

The dry chemical contains Ammonium Phosphate, The ammonia in the dry chemical evaporates as it comes into contact with moisture from the air and then forms phosphoric acid.

I would use a CO2 extinguisher or just let it burn. I have good insurance.

Also this^ I work with aircraft as part of my job and we have special fire extinguishers for the airplanes so we dont corrode the aluminum. Halon or a Halon equivalent is your best bet, but CO2 or AFFF will work as well if you dont live in a place that sees low temps

Never heard anyone at a fire scene say their extinguisher was too big. Get as much as you have room to carry. Overkill trumps underkill damn near every time.

I'll forward your legal advice off to the next poor sap who has a forest fire started because his truck went up in flames.
