Ah you want a manual transmission. Access Cab manuals are much rarer, not offered in the US in certain years.

9 states and Canada will ban new combustion-engined vehicle sales in 2035, but we'll probably see automakers discontinue gas models way before that. It's already happening with 30 discontinued models for 2024, some due to poor sales, some to switch to EVs. After 2035 we'll probably see a gradual reduction in the number of gas pumps when their underground tanks reach end-of-life.

I'll trade a longer wheelbase for a slightly smaller tank, longer wheelbase vehicles are just so much better on the road.

    possible

but it looks like EV sales are slowing

might not be quite time to put a fork in ICE vehicles yet

There are too many problems with current EVs; I think the technology will get there but at the moment the infrastructure and range and charging times and battery degradation and replacement costs don’t justify the government’s rush to switch. And not to get political, but if the election results in a Trump victory, I’d bet the push toward EVs will slow dramatically. And it should. Let the free market dictate what succeeds.

Thanks for posting that. I assumed that was the reason, but didn’t look too in-depth for it.

Really liked that Trooper, had more of squared off cargo space compared to a 4Runner, much easier to haul bulky items. Yeah you’re right would not of survived todays crash standards.

In all reality a DCLB will work, probably even better. The ACLB is my favorite can configuration, oh well…my ‘21 has a lot of life in it left. Just turned 43K. Take me another 8 years to get it to 200K.

With the 4G pricing, better off buying a Tundra. Still can get an “access cab” they just call it a double.

I did, looked for years for the “right one” gave up and settled on an auto. Have come to terms with it. So much better in bumper to bumper traffic, which I am often dealing with.

Yeah, I hear ya, I had a DC and it was all right but I’ve always had extra cabs and having this one be an access cab is even better. About to turn 10 K, and based on my driving habits age and the fact that I have another car coming soon, I’ll probably sell this thing in 20 years with about 100,000 miles on it

    Something about an access cab

Yup…Just something about the ACs. Don’t need back seats, looks the best aesthetically, it works quite well for me. Had to swing by the P.O.this morning to drop off some orders, cargo area behind the seat is perfect. If I treat it right, will last 20+ years like my 1G. Probably be dead before the truck wears out.

It seems every TNGA-F vehicle has a smaller fuel tank than the preceding generation.
    GX550: 21.1 gal
    GX460: 23.0 gal

This means the 6th gen 4Runner will probably get a smaller 21 gal fuel tank as well.

Perhaps Toyota will listen and bring the tank back up to 21 gallons for Year 2 or 3 of this new gen?

Barf. Hopefully by then they'll have figured out how to make affordable EVs that can get an easy 600 miles per charge, with "recharges" that take the same amount of time as refuels for gas powered vehicles from empty to full. IE, recharge your EV from 'very low' to 100% in 2-3 minutes. When that technology gets here I'll be more than happy to switch over to EV. As is...

Probably why they are pushing the Trail Hunter with a bed rack, so you can mount Rotopax.

Personally rather have a bigger main tank, was absolutely thrilled that my 3G had a 21 over the 18 in my 1G. Because in reality, that 18 is more like 15 gallon usable, my ‘99 has a range of 265 miles, kinda sucks when traveling. Have to stop often, even if you can Jerry cans as I do.

Maybe the mpg will be dramatically improved over the 5th gen.

^You know that won't be the case. The 6th gen 4Runner is expected to use the same powertrain as the 4th gen Tacoma / 250 Land Cruiser, both with published mpg figures already.

Prolly…as it most likely be a BEV. Then we will be fussing over range, recharge times …and if the thing is going to spontaneously combust while in the garage.

If it gets the same as the 4th gen Tacoma, that WILL be a significant improvement. Good enough for me.

3rd gens have been known to spontaneously combust while in the garage. I don't see why a Tacoma BEV would break that trend :notsure:

Yeah coming off the 1G getting 15-17 with the 18 gallon tank. Then the 3G is fetching an easy 20-23 mixed/Hwy and a 21 gallon tank. Major improvement. Them going back to an 18 is a definite step backwards.

Looking at the F150 with the 36 gallon, would only have to go to the gas station every 3.5 weeks.. That sure would be nice.

With the 4G, don’t know if the added costs and compromises are worth it. Base Tundra has a 22 gallon tank, 405 ft/lbs, and gets the same mpgs. Might be able to pay less OTD for it too.
