I believe the older 2.7 ecos still had a rubber belt, have to use a specific engine oil so the belt doesn't degrade. If you used any old oil the belt would degrade and the debris would clog the oil pick up filter and starve the engine of oil.

Cutting corners here and there, could lead to catastrophic damage. Yeow!

Right, now if you're a little low on oil and can't get the none rubber degrading oil you're risking severe engine damage lol.

I can’t wait to see what the average person gets for mpgs with these trucks. It sounds like most people get less mpg than advertised in the new Tundra. The new Sequoia is the same with lower than advertised. What are we doing?

I keep forgetting the hybrid exists. The non hybrid 4wd trucks are the same tow rating as 2023s, while the max available (sr5 2wd) did decrease a touch.

Yeah depending on trim the non hybrid gained 100lbs.

Unfortunate about the hybrid, all that torque and looses capacity. Fairly clear it is aimed at the hotrodders, would be nice if they offered more efficient version.

Guessing going to be a lot lower than epa ratings, since majority of people won’t people to keep their foot out of the turbo.

Truck King wasn’t all that impressed with it. While there were some major changes, no real gains and goes backwards in some areas. It is more of aesthetic design and tech change than anything. It should tow and ride better, and not much else.

Yeah that would suck. So are the new 2.7s gear driven?

Truck King did a test where the 4G (off road????) delivered 1 mpg more than the 3G which matched the EPA estimates.

The EPA hasn’t released info on the 4G yet. All we have is Toyotas numbers.

Yep, at roughly the 13:50 minute mark in the video I posted.

Currently averaging 19.5-20 mixed in my 3G.

HWY I can get 23-24. (Under 70 mph)

C+d got 22mpg on a 75mph highway route in an OR. So below 70, I’d bet you could get 24-25mpg

    on 33s

What’s really crazy is that they can barely squeak out an extra mpg in the Tacoma but the Grand Highlander hybrid can get 37 mpg. If that’s possible then a fuel efficient hybrid Tacoma has got to be possible too.

Bet you could, slight gains if any isn’t all that good given the major redesign. Though looking at other manufacturers turbos and their results, not sure what people were expecting.

Believe this drivetrain is a stop gap for the BEVs. Not seeing a glaring good reason to run out buy a 4G, especially with “market adjusted” pricing. If you don’t need a lot of tech (like myself) the Tundra SR is the better buy and truck for that matter. Similar mpgs, 22 gal tank, 405 ft/lbs tq, 1800 lbs payload, 8000 lbs towing, marginally bigger. The DC6.5 4X4 is $43K.

Maybe the 27 Hwy rumors are true? But is it worth the extra price? Guessing those hybrids are going to be $60K easy. You’ll save on fuel, but won’t save you any money overall.

That’s the biggest problem. If you aren’t going to save money then what’s the point in paying extra for more complex technology.

Slight gains are all you’re going to get since it’s not an aerodynamic package. Anyone expecting 27mph highway on 33s is fooling themselves. The fact that this truck gets more mpg with more power on bigger tires is actually a huge improvement

Yeah no way 33s and 27 Hwy.

It is a mild improvement, more power, but similar mpg and smaller tank makes it a wash I think.

it was a major gain going from my 1G to my 3G, went from 15-17, 225-265 mile range, to 19-23 and 342-400+ mile range. With the 4G’s 18 gal tank and similar mpg to the 3G, going a bit backwards where I need it.

Would think the guys worried about fuel economy are cheap SOBs, so the hybrid is out for them. The SR 2WD is probably the deal for those people. Says 26 Hwy, which is great, but I absolutely need 4WD.

That 2WD is fine if you live in Florida. Pretty useless anywhere that gets snow.

Pretty much. The Trooper we had was RWD, did “ok” here in Idaho with a good set of snow tires down in the valley, wouldn’t take it up into the mountains though.

Ahh...I saw it tabulated in the video and assumed it was. Good catch.
