Obviously the small tank sucks. But personally I'll take it in exchange for coil spring/link rear end. I've built plenty of leaf spring packs for crawlers and toyotas but this setup has so much more potential. Now it can compete better in koh and other racing events. Less wheel hop, more tunable...

Are a lot of people racing their new $50K trucks in King of the Hammers?

Actually, there is a whole class that is based on "stock suspension style" where dozens of toyotas have been racing for years. Unfortunently they have struggled because of leaf springs and weak front ends. Jeeps have dominated. Thats annoying to me. Now that marlin crawler has developed such a good front end solution and the rear end has been brought into this century they will be able to compete.

While I agree, this seems like a very stupid compromise

Didn't read the whole thread so this may be covered but if they improved gas mileage enough then the range coule be the same.

2024 Tacoma is rated at 19/24/21 for the 2.4 317/310 tq version, the base SR 2.4 is 243 tq is 20/26/23. Majority of buyers would choose the 317/310 version, one would assume.

    2023 Tacoma V6 3.5 is rated at 19/24/21

Those numbers are bullshit. Ideal conditions at low mph.

My tank average over three years of mixed driving was consistently 18.5. I never saw anything remotely close to 21.

The 2024 will probably improve by 1 mpg on my normal route.

Hmmm, as I've written here on several occasions, I routinely see 21-22 mpg on a long road trip in my TRD Sport 6MT; 18-19 mpg is more typical for bopping around town running errands.

No, you said Ideal Conditions or some such. My latest 21+ mpg trip was between Aberdeen, MD and Manchester, NH, and there is nothing about that route which qualifies as "ideal".

Yep, they test them in the most ideal conditions possible, usually based off the 2WD models. The 4th Gen numbers were pulled from Toyota, nothing on the government site yet for it. The Toyota site actually has the 3rd Gen a little lower than what the government has.

Mileage will vary user to user. I average 19-20 mixed (commute is mostly flat, drive like an egg under the gas pedal, 25-55 speeds) will return 22-23 hwy (65-70 mph)

So…with that, no real change in mpgs, 4th Gen will have less range.
