I got a really good deal on a set of wheels and tires.
The problem is, the tires are about 1 inch smaller than stock size.

So the tire and wheels are probably 20lbs heavier per wheel, but also the tires themselves are smaller in diameter, which means my Speedometer is off by about 5mph now on the highway. (5mph faster than actual speed).

I intend on taking these tires off and just getting stock sizes soon, but in the mean time am I doing any damage to my transmission with these heavy tires on my truck? I can definitely feel the weight difference in starting/stopping. Does the smaller diameter counteract any wear/tear on my transmission from turning the heavier set of tires?

Anything heavier will cause more wear on anything related.
Will it be a noticeable or measurable amount? I highly doubt it.
If you want stock size, you can probably all but steal a set of stock takeoffs with hardly any miles.

you can feel a difference in 80 pounds?

you notice a handling difference when driving with a passenger over just driving by yourself?

i suspect the noticeable difference is more of a butt dyno effect.

being that it's all rotational mass, it will have a minor effect on acceleration and stopping, with slightly increased brake pad use. but i would say that's still well within the margin of error that all the factory gear has accounted for.

Yeah, i can totally feel 80lbs of unsprung (is that the right term?) weight. For sure. I want to get some BFgoodrich trail terrains...they're like 39lbs, but i also don't want to buy new tires when the heavy ones I have are still 70% good.

I guess i can drive around for another 5000 miles or whatever and not worry about my transmission slipping or fucking up my torque converter or whatever.

I went up one size and to E series tires, I think they’re about 18# each heavier, and I could absolutely feel it, the second I turned on to the street, after rolling out of the shop to install.

Absolutely. It's unsprung weight so multiply that by 5, so like carrying an additional 400 lbs.
