Im new to Tacoma World and I've done some searching with no luck. I have an 04 Tacoma 4x4 with a 2 inch spacer lift. Im currently running 265/75/16s with 16x8 wheels and 4.5 back spacing. Im thinking about stepping up to a 285/75/16 and i know ill need wheel spacers. Whats the smallest spacer i can go with to minimize the rubbing?

with 16x8 4.5 backspacing rims, you should NOT need additional wheel spacers.

That's only when running 285 width tires on factory rims.

So will I be able to run 285s with out any rubbing? Or will there still be some trimming needed to be done? I already have my mud flaps removed so that wont be an issue.

    I didn't say you wouldn't rub. :D

Most folks find they have to trim wheelwell plastic.

Some folks, especially four-wheeling, need to do the cab-mount chop.

But adding wheel spacers wouldn't help with any of that, and would actually make the problem worse. Wheel spacers keep the tire from rubbing on the upper control arm. Typically, a need for a wheel spacer is revealed when you can't even mount the wheel on the truck.

I found that at full lock even the slightest compression of the suspension would cause the tires to rub on the frame a bit, a set of 3/4" spacers from Bora cleared that up.

I had 285/70's on stock sport wheels with 1" spacers and rubbed all over the place. Driving the truck straight was no issue. Turning, even slightly, and hitting any bump in the road I rubbed. Backing out of the driveway and turning I rubbed. Backing straight and hitting a bump, I rubbed. I took off the spacers and went to a 265/70. Truck does not look as nice but zero issues...

Running 285/75/16 MT on stock trd offroad wheels with 1.25 wheel spacer. At full lock it rub a bit of plastic and just a bit of the cab mount. Knife to the plastic was easy. For the cab mount. I just shave about half way and problem solve. Paint it black and good to go. No rubbing on full lock when hitting bump on or offroad.
