I am going through the same thing. Key not detected with engine light blinking. Fob will not lock or unlock the doors. Fob won't even work when trying to get back in after locking. I grabbed the spare one and it's the same thing. If you hold the fob up to the window it detects the key and shuts off but fob still will not lock or unlock doors. Only way to lock and unlock doors is with key.

I've had a similar issue but found the problem. I keep my key and wallet in the same pocket. One side has a magnet in it. If I have the key on that side of my wallet, it blocks the signal. If I flip my wallet over, it works.

I just hit 37k and have the extended warranty. Hopefully it was a glitch. This happened one time before for a minute and stopped. Hopefully I go out now and it stopped.

Yes, I believe it's just a glitch. Since my original post, this situation happened again maybe once or twice? Not a bid deal for me anymore. I blame it on cell phone or magnetic interference or :alien:! Anyhow, what I've learned from this thread and TW is that I can still lock/unlock and operate the truck even with a dead keyfob.

The problem still exists. I have both fobs outside, one brand new the other I swapped the battery out and the doors will not unlock. I am thinking the receiver is bad inside. I believe it's located by the glove box. Looks like I have to go back to the dealer. This happened one other time but it was brief. At least the key works...

According to the Tacoma Manual there are three sensors. I would think the sensor by the drivers door is dead. Probably explains why it doesn’t detect key when out and won’t open door automatically nor have the fob remote open the doors. As soon as I pass the fob thru the window the warning shuts off and it recognizes the key.

Called dealer. Can’t get in there till Monday. Truck is packed anyways and I am heading fishing. The dealer guy thinks the remote lost its programming. Anyone have a solution here?

You wouldn’t happen to have a dash cam would you? Before i got my 27F battery, i used to pull the power plug out of the dash cam to keep the parking mode from staying on when i parked it for longer then 2 days without driving it. It works fine when the power to the dash cam is off or the parking mode shuts off, but when it is on, i get limited to no response from my fobs. I finally figured this out after months of trial and error. Also it is not the front camera, its the back one that is causing it. When i pull the power to just the back, everything works fine. If you are running any aftermarket accessories, try to isolate them to make sure they are not the cause of interference.

Edit: i have a BlackSys CH200 2 camera system in my Tacoma but what i don’t understand is that my wife has a Lexus NX which has the same smart key system, it has another BlackSys 2 camera system but a CH100B installed in her car, but it doenst have the same problem as mine, it works perfect......go figure. Both look similar but the CH200 is a newer model which both front and back record in full HD.

Had a similar situation occur a few months back after a really bad rain storm. Once the truck dried out everything began working again.

Well it decided to work this morning. Lol. Maybe it was the stop shot in the middle of no where to avoid killing the coons....anyways time to go fishing. The only thing I did was wash the car, then an hour later FOB would not work.

On another fishing trip and it acted up again. It happened when it was raining hard last night at the campsite. The other thing that happened was the reverse cam was stuck on the head unit. Turned the truck on and off and it went away. I have the rear cam mod. I have left the switch on before and turned the truck off and did not have this happen. Maybe the diode is bad now or going bad sending a signal back to the computer and it thinks it’s in reverse. Gonna pull the cover off and unplug the rear cam mod and put it back the way it was. If it is not then I have a short somewhere from water.

BF931FD1-0557-443C-96D9-3C76CE76C2D7.jpg Pulled the radio out, unplugged reverse cam mod out of head unit and put it back factory and it’s still doing it.

I believe it’s the drivers side door sensor for the Fob is shortening out. As soon as you hold the fob up by the window the blinking service light and key not detected turns but your power locks still won’t remote open and you can’t lock the truck.

Having the same problem with both fobs on my 2018. Y’all think I should remove my 12voltsolutions remote start before heading to the dealer? I installed it over a year ago, so I wouldn’t think it would be the problem.

That’s the other reason I don’t like supporting aftermarket key fob without the key slot. Is there for a reason, just saying!
