I’m having problems with my smart key on 2017 tacoma sport. I have replaced the batteries thinking they were dead but that’s not the case. The fob doesn’t work to lock and unlock the truck. I have to take the actual key out of the fob to unlock the door and then when I go to start the truck I have to take the fob to the push to start button then I can start it. Tried to find something in the manual but I can’t find anything on it. Does anybody have some insight on this problem?

    Does your spare work?
If you have to hold to the button, it sounds like it’s no longer recognized by the system.

Man this forum is my last resort before I go to Toyota about it. I have tried google and YouTube and everything else but that’s still not giving me any help. I tried both my spare and main key and same thing for both.

There maybe a proximate sensor/antenna inside the driver's door, and a receiver under dash. Check and see if the oem door speaker(s) have been replaced, if they have, there may be damage to the sensor/antenna.

You'll most likely need a qualified tech with access to tech stream/scanner, check with the guys who install alarms/stereos for a TOYOTA dealer, as they maybe able to help for a reasonable price

The dome light works. Everything works as it’s supposed to besides the key. But I’ll have to try to get into contact with some of them guys to see about it. Thanks!

Take some steel wool and gently clean the metal contacts where the coin battery sits inside the Fob. It would be very strange that both Fobs had dirty contacts at the same time, but it is worth a try.
