Take the key out of the fob, leave the fob in the truck, close the doors, with the key you just removed from the fob, insert it into the drivers side door and turn the key counterclockwise, that will lock all of the doors... then put the key in your pocket and go on your merry way. When you return, put the key in the drivers side door and turn it clockwise, this will unlock your doors, open the door, climb inside, put the key back into the fob and start your truck. Proceed to carry on your merry way.

Next week, we'll go over how to open the fridge and poor yourself a glass of milk.

What is the purpose of deactivating the key fob you have inside the truck?

If someone breaks your window to get into your truck and finds your fob, can't they just drive away? The fob still works without the key in it right?

keep the electronic portion in your vehicle deactivated and use the hardware key to lock the door. use a strong magnet to keep the key in on the body somewhere. good to go.

I put it either in my pocket, or on the clip in my backpack. Never lost one yet.

My response was smart ass, I know.

Yes. If it's in the truck, the thief wouldn't even need to find the fob, just press the button. You can disable it as another member posted earlier.

Sure. But they'll look for a week before they find mine.

If the fob is in the truck anywhere in the cab, they can start it. Pulling out the key does not disable the fob either.

I gave my wife our spare FOB when we went on vacation in case I lost mine or it stopped working. She hid her purse in the truck with the spare when we went for a hike. I couldn't figure out why the truck would not lock using the door handle but it would using the buttons on the FOB. Once I figured this out I knew the truck sensed the spare FOB inside the truck and wouldn't allow it to lock normally. Safety feature I suppose.

My 2017 locks manually when just the fob is in it without the key attached, and it starts that way too. By leaving the fob in your truck, the only security is the glass windows.

what is this thread? if you are camping, biking, fishing, hunting, whatever you normally have a bag. Key >ziplock/drybag>other bag. Do you often lose your backpack? Do you lose your gun case? Do you lose your tackle? What?

Yeah, I can definitely see this rusting out. I only use it when I need it and then remove it.

Surfing and scuba diving for me. There’s no good way to carry a fob in these 2 situations
