    You don't even need the PS3 to watch HD films or stream Netflix, plug in a laptop or computer with an HDMI cable, get a wireless mouse and enjoy.

    I use an Xbox 360, but for downloaded movies in full HD I use the laptop as the 360 will not play files over 2GB (I think).

    No issues watching any of my downloaded 1080 movies via the PS3. I have a PC which is my media server, stays on 24/7 and converts .mkv files on the fly. PS3 media server works for streaming HD movies to Xbox 360 as well...
