Thats what I have been hearing. They said that since its a new model year the airbags are about $3000 each for the curtain and $600 each for the new seats. Just the airbag damage is an estimate of $10,000

I'll be contrarian and go on record with 'not totaled'.

Glad the safety systems worked and that you were ok!

Not necessarily. Yes, both went off in his case, but my steering wheel bag blew when I nailed the tire earlier in the year, and mine was fixed. It's not a hard and fast rule. Everyone, including the tow driver said mine would more then likely be totaled since the bag went off, but it wasn't.

F I'm with Bill. I don't think they will total it. 10k is only 25 percent of the value.

If the frame guys find the frame damaged, then it well change things. Frame damaged, then its gone.

I am in the "simpler is better-I prefer the old trucks" camp. But given the choice between a simple truck and a safe truck, glad the 3rd gen appears to be able to take a punch. Again-OP glad you are OK.

Glad you're okay, truck will either be totaled or no but it's just a truck. Tacoma ability to protect its occupants is near legendary. Judging by the accident you are very lucky to walk away.

The 10K is JUST the airbag replacement cost. LOTS more then that, especially if the cab is badly pranged, like it seems to be.

Sorry dude! I see a lot of crashes in my line of work....like over 10 a week. I'd say it's totalled. I've been wrong before but I'm usually right! :D

Yes, I know. I buy and rebuild wrecked Toyota trucks and rebuild them. Air bags are not automatic total of a vehicle. Body work is just labor. hence I'm waiting to see if frame work is involved.

I like these type of threads.

The really important thing is that the OP is fine. A truck CAN be replaced, a life can't!!

yo, op. Make sure you keep us in the loop. I do hope the replace the truck. It just sucks running something that you know is no longer original. I am glad you are unhurt for sure. Let us know how things are panning out.

I have dealt with two major accidents.

2004 Mazda 3, 90 days old, had 9k damage done to a 16k dollar car, but since it was so new they repaired the car.

I also had one of my previous Audi A4's totaled... Both side curtain, and front air bags were deployed, had substantial body damage, but it was the engine damage the caused it to be totaled. Adjuster told me that due to the newer model year it needed to be 40-60% of the total value.

And on a side note...the Insurance company only let me salvage the aftermarket parts from the car. Which was limited since the sheet metal tore apart most of the intercooler and tubing.
