So recently my gas mileage as tank to 13mpg and my spark plugs are fouled with carbon. So I’m thinking the iac valve is not working not allowing enough air or a leaky injector. Smell of oil on dipstick. No check engine light Please advise really stuck:facepalm:

Smell of oil or of gas? Because it should smell like one and not the other.

taking that sentence as a typo and you really meant 'smell of gas on dipstick' look for leaky injectors or a bad fuel pressure regulator leaking fuel into the intake manifold.

Well it does smell like a gas on the dipstick. The level on the dipstick is fine not going any higher.

get it fixed asap and change your oil- fuel wash will really wreak havoc on your oil's ability to keep things lubricated- specifically your piston rings.

Well I have to find the problem before changing oil... spark plugs are covered in carbon

The best way to tell if gas is in your oil is to drain a little into a styrofoam cup. If there is gas present, it will melt the bottom of the styrofoam cup.

How's the engine temp? If the thermostat stuck open you could be stuck in warm up mode. This causes bad mileage and excess fuel delivery that can cause that smell. Also fouls plugs

a quick (but not always 100%) way to check the FPR is to pull the vacuum hose that goes to it- if it smells like gas, or especially if it is wet with gas, the diaphragm is torn and there's your problem.

there could be a ' leaky' fuel injector........that alone would not cause carbon on the plugs

check Ur plugs...... the bad cylinder of course will look worse

all cylinders should Not look bad
if they do look funky thats NOT 1 bad injector !!

smell of ' gas ' in the oil would not necessarily increase the crankcase / dipstick
the amount of fuel loss .....washing the cylinder walls getting blown by the rings
will contaminate the oil yet quite a bit will evaporate

be certan NOT to jumble parts
#1 injector the exact same as #1

#1 sparkplug stays Same as #1 spark plug

    good luck

Yea all spark plugs have carbon on it. Having someone check my valve clearance as well. My mpg as dropped from 17 to 13

if ALL the plugs have deposits..........unlikely all injectors are bad

they are all firing in error

any recent work done to engine ???

Not that I know of. I possibly think the IAC valve is stuck. I have no engine codes showing up

327k rebuilt at 290k but it just started getting bad mpg and carbon plugs. Because I hear air escaping it sounds like near the throttle body

Getting the valve clearance check that could do it I heard possible

    unlikely the valves
after the rebuild it would have been evident then

there again unlikely ALL are out of adjustment
unless during rebuild they were ALL installed in error

    compression/leak down would tell

valves out adjustment wont eliminate gas in the crankcas or smell

    why U suspect IAC ??

Because I have a rough idle slightly, and I hear air escaping near under the throttle body. also I did a compression test and all cylinders within 180s

aint likely U could test 180's with valves out adjustment

    if U hear air/vacuum leaks..............not valves either

if U hear air/vacuum leak after quite a few miles......................stop Guessing

    back track in that area
    check & double check

even a vacuum leak wont leak gas into the crankcase
could actually throw off a sensor resulting in the ECM or MAF metering & compensating in error
