Does anybody know any tricks other than a detail how to get cigarette smell out of the truck. Bought my Tacoma used and apparently the previous owner smoked, so need to get the smell out, anybody know?

Don't specifically know about cigarette smell, but Fabreeze worked great for puppy vomit.

Drive with your windows open as much as possible, all of them open if you can. Don't use recirc on the AC. Park with your windows open if possible, cracked at least. Put dryer sheets under the seats. Park the truck, roll up the windows, put dryer sheets directly under the floor heater vents, and run the heater on high for 20 minutes. Ozium air fresheners always worked well for me. It will go away eventually.

My mechanic uses an ozone generator to defunk flooded cars. Might try and find a body shop that will let you use theirs.

There a product called odorxit. You spray it and it does the rest. This stuff is amazing and it works permanently. It can only be bought online.

Find a building restoration company. One that does water/ mold remediation.
We occassionally use our ozone generators to de-smoke high end cars for car dealers. I think we charge about $75.
Set up ducting to partially open window, seal with blue tape, run a/c on recirc.
Takes about 6 hours, vehicle running.

On the cheap, with household stuff:

Good vaccuuming; wash all exposed surfaces with damp cloth, dish soap and warm water; Febreeze the shit out of it; park with windows down with a box fan propped in one window to ventilate the interior.

I believe 2nd gens have In-cabin air filters... It would be a good idea to change it, spray it with a little Ozium before you install it.

Do as much of the fabric as you can with Carpet Fresh then leave an open box of Arm & Hammer baking soda in the truck. I agree with the Fabreeze and the Ozium too, though some hate the smell of the Ozium.

Come to Denver. Go to dispensary and purchase cannabis of your choice. Roll up all the windows. Hot box for about an hour. Now it'll smell like weed. :p

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Lysol or Febreeze, or what I do since my wife smokes is leave my windows down and let the fresh air take care of it.

ozone machine and lots of scrubbing. The P/O of my truck was a smoker and the dealer used an ozone machine and did a full detail. I've had it 2 years and have never got a whiff of smoke smell in it.

I would just keep it clean, get air fresheners ( i use midsummers night in mine) and it will wear off with time. Such a disgusting habit...........

I had a similar problem and fortunately the truck was only a year old so the smell wasn't too bad or deep in the fabrics but it took me a while to get it to the point where I didn't notice it. I tried every trick in the book and after about a month or two smell was completely gone from everywhere and has never lingered.

First off a spray such as febreeze or ozium (I prefer ozium). Constant spraying 5-6 times daily onto fabrics and in the air. And also a good steam/carpet cleaning of the carpet, headliner and seats. The headliner is important as it absorbs a lot of the smoke and often gets overlooked by a detailer. And change the cabin air filter.

A good detailer can do the steam cleaning or a small steam cleaner can be purchased for a reasonable price.

I also tried all the home remedies such as coffee grounds and baking soda under the seats, which helped but didn't solve the problem.

What finally got all the lingering smells off the steering wheel/seatbelts/headliner etc. was vinegar.

Mix white vinegar with warm water and put it in a spray bottle then thoroughly clean the ENTIRE interior. All hard surfaces and soft surfaces. The truck will linger of vinegar for a week or two but that is better than cigarette smoke and once the vinegar wears off the truck will smell brand new.

This may sound crazy but after I cleaned all fabrics I couldn't get the lingering smell of the steering wheel, seat belt and drivers side visor no matter what I tried until I soaked them all in vinegar.

Lucky for me I bought the truck in May which made cleaning and drying out much easier than it would be this time of year. Good luck and be patient and persistent, it takes a few weeks but you'll get it out.

Park it outside with the windows down a few days in a row. It will go away.

I quit smoking and my Camry stopped smelling in a few days of leaving the windows down and a quick wipe down of the inside.

Hahaha! Couldn't let this gem slide by!

Depends on how bad it is. I found that a good shampooing and wipe down of the whole interior with Lysol cleaner works pretty good. Remove the seats.

Get a big can of Ozium too. Spray it in the vents on recirculate and let it sit.

forget all the advice to spray ozium or febreeze or anything else

that stuff, you know how it works, don't cha ? it works by numbing your olfactory nerves so you think the smell is gone. but it doesn't remove a damn thing, and when the ozium or febreeze wears off now your truck smells like disappointment

the only thing that will work is

time in the hot hot sun and breeze with windows down. like an entire summer

    scrubbing

ozone which burns up the smoke particles and tar to ash on a molecular level and gets everywhere scrubbing won't go

ozone is a one time thing, don't do this a lot as it will break down other things over time. smoke and tar is weak
and ozone gets it fast. but if you did 20 ozone treatments to a car I'd expect some brittle wiring insulation to begin
