Smittybilt x20 10k Winch

Just got my order confirmation! Looks like i will be getting a winch soon!

 

Got home from work today and found a winch in front of my door!

 

Love it when that happens.

 

Anyone know if the Tacoma 2016+ SDHQ Hidden Winch Mount will work with the Smittybilt Gen2 X20 10k Comp? @SDHQ OFFROAD

I think that @Trailguy has that mount. However he has a warn winch, but he said that he had a bit of trouble getting it to fit and look right. The bumper and winch butt up against each other.

Also i think that @SuperBad has that winch but its on a different mount.

 

UPS is saying my winch is out for delivery! But UPS also says its scheduled for delivery tomorrow...

I would contact SDHQ to check on the compatibility of a Smittybilt Gen2 X20 10k with their mount. I used the Pelfreyblt hidden winch mount with a Warn Zeon 10 S. Pelfreybilt told me the Warn winch would mount but only with the solenoid relocation kit. I can tell you from personal experience, I had to trim metal on the hood latch support strut as well as trim some of the plastic on the inside part of the grill. This trimming was a must in order to get the grill and surrounding facia to mount properly. FYI- My truck is a 2017 PRO. It's possible that other non PRO Gen 3 Tacomas, may not need the trimming the way mine did.

Looks good man! Got my winch in yesterday but going to wait to mount until I've updated my suspension. Right now I have the same bumper in AL, I think the X20 will be a bit too much for the factory suspension though.

Fit the winch with no issues?

 

I have the aluminum too!!!! The winch went on with no problems at all! Also the aluminum bumper with a a synthetic line winch is about the same weight of a steel bumper... I had a steel with 700# springs, but they seem to be too much with the new aluminum bumper... may have to swap out the 886 coils for some 887s.

 

I was just about to order this winch elsewhere. That 12k version is not much of a deal; only $10 off normal retail (for the steel and synthetic versions). The 10K however, $86 off normal retail for the synthetic version, before the $30 rebate. Very nice find!

 

just got my DeMello bumper yesterday and got it off to media blasting this morning. Once I get the bumper Rhino-lined the winch is going in!

 

I was wondering how the 6112s and the 600lb coils they come with would hold up to the AL + winch. Good feedback to know the 886s are too rough for this 'light' setup

 

I would say that 1 benefit to having the stiff coils is that when i am crawling over rocks the springs keep me up away from rocks.

 

Good to hear install was easy. I have the aluminum Pelfrey and Baja Designs fogs too.

Did you rattle can the fairlead?

 

Yes, i threw 2 coats of protective black paint and then 2 coats of clear coat on top of that.

 

Rigged it up to test and reel the line. I have a Factor 55 thimble being shipped from a TW member. The winch may not go in for a bit because I'm patiently waiting for a deal on a 20" light bar. I'm hoping for a July Iggy lights GB.

Free spooling was super rough but after running the winch a bit to spool the line it seems to disengage and spin much easier now. A bit of break in goes a long way.

edit: oh yeah, the wireless feature is friggen sweet.

 

Here's to hoping. Last day of the rebate so I figured why not.

 

Ordered it yesterday but got an email that my order was cancelled because it couldn't be fulfilled. ☹️ Oh well time to look for another deal
