smittybilt XRC9500

So I have been happy with my winch, used it to pull myself out of quite a few situations, never had a problem.
Yesterday I tried to pull a stuck chevy 1500 out of a field, I was on pavement in 4 Low with the diff locked and my truck just slid closer to the stuck chevy, so I backed up some and tied off to a tree and tried pulling with that and nothing, so I told the guy that I was sorry that I couldn't get him out.
I went to pull my winch back in and nothing, tried both the in cab and remote controls and the motor never moved.
So I just unhooked from the truck and wrapped the cable around my hoops and went home figuring the solenoid gave up.
Tried this morning and I can hear the solenoid clicking with the engine off so it's got power, put the winch in free spool and the motor still won't turn.

Thoughts on what I should check before I Email smittybilt about warranty?
