Normally an 8' utility trailer. :)

I rent a travel trailer a few times a year though. I'm towing a 19' trailer to jambo in may and wanted the piece of mind of the controller.

Spooling on the wire after a long day of working on the truck. The winch is in and wired. The in cab controls are hooked up as well. I'll get more pictures up tomorrow.

    Superwinch Tigershark 9500 install

I installed the winch yesterday. I'm a little OCD when it comes to wiring so it took a bit longer than expected, but it turned out great.

I used an Amazon lug crimper to attach all of the sealed 1/0 cable lugs. The wire is 1/0 welding lead.

The crimper has metric size dies so they're not exactly right for the lugs, but if you crimp them 80% and then rotate the lug 90º and continue the crimp you'll get good results.

Here's the chosen solenoid location. Yes, I sealed the box before installing it.

Main power lines from the battery. The pelfreybuilt cage is fantastic, but you have to watch those wing nuts. I welded the wingnut between the terminal and the cage once.

    More wiring

I used anderson type quick disconnects for the main power. No need to have the winch connected to power 24/7.

The honeycomb grill on the '11 is great! :D

Here's how the setup will look while winching. Notice the water resistant covers for the anderson connectors.

    Cleaning up the wiring

I have to give credit to Colin for this one. He enlarged the mounting hole in the ARB to accept the plug for the remote.

The start of the remote wiring and the in cab controls. The spade connectors will lead to the ARC relay panel.

    More wiring cleanup

Here's where the leads for the winch will live. The velcro is just enough to keep the leads from falling out.

I used the empty parking lot across the street to spool in the wire. I definitely got some looks by passers by. :D

It was getting dark by the time I finished, but here's the finished shot. I have a daystar hook isolator on the way, so the hook is on the tow point temporarily.

Now with the daystar winch line isolator.

    Wires cleaned up nicely!

Time for an isolator. it'll keep you from getting a permanant bend in the line at the roller. also keeps you from blowing out your hook on a rock

Thanks Colin. I took my time with the wiring. I probably should have stopped for lunch as I was starting to get a little loopy towards the end of the install.

Oh, and I'm way ahead of you. :D

All of my shackles are Crosby. I needed another 4-3/4 ton shackle to go with my kit. I have the 6-1/2 tons on the rear bumper as that's the shackle I use as a go-to for my designs at work.

It's a no no to use synthetic on an internally braked winch. Lot's of people do it, but your risking melting the line to the drum. I'll stick with cable for now.

Thanks bud! Let me know if you have any questions as it sounds like you might be installing a winch sometime in the near future.

The price point climbs pretty high when you're looking for an externally braked winch. The superwinch line starts around $1600.

I guess I could have looked at your sig pic to figure that one out.

So you're going to redo your wiring to the solenoid?

Definitely stay away from chains. I have seen chains pop before, not fun. With proper safety precautions, like line dampeners, cable should be just fine.

    Winch install looks great!

One thing you may want to look into it getting some protection for those cables. I got my M8000 for free because the previous owner fried the motor from a short. The short happened right where the motor connects to the cable (see right next to the "A"). Somehow the cable got a hole in it.

This weekend I protected all the wires so hopefully I never have the same issue or burn my truck down.

    Thanks

I'll keep an eye on the cables since they're easy to get too. The welding lead shielding should hold up better than the automotive stereo style wiring though. Good looking out.

Hell yea it will. The audio rubber is crap compared to welding cable.

I'm curious as to how the hole started. I think maybe a rock or something at highway speed whacked it.

Haha, I'm not that ghetto! No, those are hella supertone horns. They're about as loud as it gets before you go train horns, and they're inexpensive.
