Took a dip in the White River today to try and get some of the salt from last weekend off the truck.

Thanks for the LR bushing write-up. Helpful even though I got a little too aggressive with the sawzall.

Glad to help. Yeah, you can get into the sleeves pretty easily if you're not paying very close attention. I chose to cut part way through and then bend the sleeve to release the tension.

The tanks will be skinny, but they should hold enough for a reserve. They'll be between the frame rail and the jobox.

I'm using sketchup to design my flatbed. This is the progress I've made so far.

This is my first concept and it's far from done, but it's starting to look like something. The steel in the picture is 2" square tube and will be 0.120 wall. There is definitely some economizing to do. I will need to do a weight takeoff to see what I'm adding to the rear of the truck.

Does anyone know the weight of the complete bed?

Thanks Kase. The square tubing will be easier for me to deal with and it will be easier in terms of connecting the deck and side paneling.

The plan is to have tubing for the main hoop, side rails, and under rail though. I'm still figuring out the best way to lay out the tube in sketchup. I'll see what I can knock out tonight after work.

This is as far as I got last night. I may replace the outside square tube with 2" round tube, but I'll have to get it all drawn up first to see which looks better.

So I did some quick math. The 2x2x.120 square tube weighs 3lbs per foot. The model above has about 60 linear feet of tube which gives me a weight of 180lbs.

I will have to account for the weight of the main hoop, the side rails, and the decking before calculating a final weight.

Maybe I can find a truck scale and weigh the truck empty before I rip the bed off then go back after the new bed is built and get a comparison.
