Because K&N is cheap shit, and OEM is always expensive as hell.

Again, I don't believe there is a CA legal intake on the market.

Depends on the smog tech. My trd cai (1st version) just passed again in January. Third place to not have any issues with it. Since it has the trd logo stamped on all parts they have no problems with it. Obviously will vary with the tech you use.

You could try finding one but they don't pop up for sale very often.

I would ask for an extension and try to source a used one, or see if you're able to find someone who will let you "borrow" their intake for the inspection. Otherwise, you don't have that many options. You can try and re-smog elsewhere, but as the above poster mentioned, he has a TRD intake. It might fail, it might pass depending on the shop and who's looking at it, but the one difference it makes for him is that it's an OEM part. K&N and the others are not, and will continue to be an issue for you even if you pass this year, it might bite you in the ass next time around.

This worked for me in the past with an old Chevy van I had. It failed in Beaverton Oregon, but passed across town in Clackamas!

^^^^^ He's not failing emissions. He's failing a visual. He might get a new smog tech that won't care about the intake, but the calibration of testing equipment isn't an issue as he's passed those tests.

You might try searching on here for "part out" and see if any of the members have one available who work at scrap yards.. just an idea.
