Try car-part.com. Not that big of a part, you should be able to get one shipped out to you pretty easily. On another note, CA sucks. I run through emissions in my Supra turbo easily in WA. Intake, exhaust, the whole deal and no problem. They have actually raised the allowable limits on the older OBDI cars. No emissions testing of ANY kind outside of town, no emissions on diesel cars of any year and 07+ bigger diesels. No visual inspections, they got rid of gas cap inspections, got rid of dyno testing too. Emissions testing is going bye bye all together at around 2020.

btw, to the CA guys. How much is the yearly registration on your trucks out of curiosity.

So is that around $650 per year? Or is there a large initial registration fee?

You guys are getting shafted, that sucks. My Tundras registration was about $75/ year and my dads 2005 Sierra 2500HD CCSB diesel runs about $80/ year. And I thought WA had high car tab fees.

Only option is to get a used one or find a member close to you willing to let you use the stock box.

can you just get a CARB sticker and place it on there...ask if one was available for your application or ("off the record" - oops I got the wrong sticker from K&N and placed them in the engine bay...)

K&N won't release a carb sticker unless it's for a kit that is carb legal. They also need info like registration and possibly pictures, etc...

Model number for intake won't pass it with a sticker anyway, and before, they checked.

Ya i called K&N they are willing to give me a full refund.. I think my best bet tho is to find one at a salvage yard or on ebay or carparts like that one guys was saying, i think i need the aircleaner box and hose as well, i think im just gonna install it for the smog and then put my k&n back on and keep that one... When i installed it years ago i never thought it would become illegal to have the dam thing thats why i tossed my shit, not gonna lugg around a air intake system i dont use lol. I feel like i should be grandfathered in though... How can they just make a law like that when i had it already installed before they made it :/

I live in the enhanced smog basin area. If the K&N cold air intake system was 50 state legal, then all you need is the EO (executive order) number & sticker to satisfy the ARB/BAR requirement. Contact K&N with the model and hopefully the receipt number/copy and they should send you your EO number so smog will no longer be an issue. Good luck !

Some K&N stuff are CARB approved. I remember for my Silverado, it came with a CARB sticker for smog.

That was GM stuff. They had several things 50 state legal for the Big 3 makers. Toyota maybe a smaller market, so less development into making a 50 state legal kit.

It's like firearms in CA. It cost manufacturers money to have it tested and approved for sale in CA so they just skip CA. Same with getting CARB approval. Cost to manufacturers so again, skip CA. I always see "49 state legal" in regards to automotive but they are really talking about how they skipped CA. Many pros and cons we have in our state.

I think at the Toyota Dealership, they will let the TRD V1 CAI slide on the visual inspection.

I once had a tech give me a visual fail, and I even had the carb sticker. He didn't care. Went to a different station and it passed.

    Op, whats your location?

The one thing I don't miss about San Diego. Try having an older car that still requires smog testing. My 88 Mustang was a pain in the ass to deal with. Failed visual because of my MSD dist. cap. Yes, a cap that is no different than stock other than being red. Then the newer Catalytic converter laws suck. Then a guy failed me because he "couldn't see the timing numbers" on my balancer. To top it off, my Mustang is lowered, so it made a hell of a time getting it into stations to test. However, we moved to freaking Illinois so who knows what I will have to go through here.

Too bad you weren't closer to the bay area. I have my stock intake sitting in the garage for this specific reason. Its a pain in the ass to deal with and takes up space in the garage collecting dust but thats the price you pay to live in california ... putting up with stupid CARB laws. I know companies do make CARB legal intakes but not sure about for tacomas. I was thinking about getting one for my subie before I traded it in.
