I'm guessing that you live in California? My suggestion would be to move to a state with less stringent emissions testing standards... :D

If the timing is off and the RPMs are too high, my guess would be that your truck needs a simple tuneup. Is your CEL on? Also, I would suggest running EFI cleaner through your truck's fuel injection system. :)

Yup you guessed it California …. No check engine light on. Thought it would have pass. Going go to autozone right now to get some EFI cleaner. Just don’t know if it’s worth taking it to the mechanic or me trying fix it myself.

There are other issues, she failed the visual for thermostatic air cleaner and functional EGR. The tech could not verify idle ignition timing because it would not idle at recommended idle speed. You are now flagged as a gross polluter and this puts you in a special category smog wise. For some reason you are dumping fuel into the motor… what motor is in the truck?

The paperwork is laid out poorly. The pass/ fail is to the left of the item checked, so the two fails on the visual are actually Fuel Evaporative Controls and Ignition Timing TDC.

Yes correct took me a second to read it.
What fail was the Timing TDC and Evaporative control

Ah damn, thought you were from LA but the vehicle was in a different state

Did the smog for transferring from your mom/brother not work to transfer it to you now when you guys bought it?

It has worked for me before

To add something more useful (in hopes that you fix this truck properly and don't continue to pollute)- You probably have several small (but potentially expensive) issues compounding into the failed smog. The 2.7l engine is simple to work on. Plugs, wires, coils (distributor maybe in 95?) should be easy for the mechanic. Cats could get expensive, so hope those are in good shape.
