Blue smoke no bueno sad to say.

I’m guessing maybe oil maybe getting past the valve seals, or oil return passages may have gunk or oil viscosity is wrong and not flowing/returning to the sump as it should.

Lot of many other maybe’s so I’d start with the basics, an oil change and analysis, replace the pcv valve because I’m assuming it’s starts (quickly) as it should, not missing with plenty of power thereby maybe eliminating bad rings.

    Best of luck

ah, good point! Ive only ever seen lighter smoke from headgaskets, i guess all of the audis ive dealt with leaked so much oil that they just made clouds from the oil.

The more I learn, the more wary about that. A new car you can keep a long time and know everything that has happened to it.

Im assuming you have never owned a vehicle past 170k, Done road side fixes to get it started, not overheating etc. Hasnt everyone pissed in a radiator?

he can still drive his truck and deal with it.... its not like his wheel fell off.

Between my parents, sister and I, we've bought 1 new car in the last 45 years, out of about 12 of them. On the whole, the only one that really sucked was a 94 Ford Thunderbird. The rest have been fine. If you do your research, you can save a lot of money buying used.

drive it and check the oil level weekly. Probably not an issue. I previously owned two 2nd gen’s with the same issue. No issue than occassional puff at cold startup. I put 400K miles on them with occasional start up puffs

OP, did you ever get a professional opinion on the root cause of the problem?

Wow guys, this really blew up. Thank you all very much for taking the time to respond and help me figure this out.

I've talked with two different mechanics in my area. The mechanic at the place I bought it told me to continue to check the oil and coolant levels until I'm due for an oil change and they would do the next oil change and would add Lucas (which I really don't want to do) and if that didn't help, they would look at the valve stem seals and go from there. They are willing to help me since I bought it there, which is hard to pass up.

I got another opinion from a trusted mechanic that I've used before. He said that they may have put a different weight oil than 0w20 and the different viscosity could be cause oil to leak and past and burn up upon starting. He said as long as my oil and coolant levels were good, the truck wouldn't be affected and that the smoke was more of a nuisance than a mechanical issue. He said he would let the other place do the oil change at 80k miles and go from there since they are willing to help.

I've put 1,500 miles on it in two weeks and I can't tell that the oil or the coolant has dropped any at all. I think I'm going to change the oil this weekend and put the recommended oil just for peace of mind.
