Smoked out taillights

Does anyone in Hawaii (Oahu to be exact) know if these smoked out taillights or any others are legal and can pass safety check in Hawaii or not?

 

You should call MJ motorsport in Waipio and ask them. They would be better to have the correct answer.
As you know it all depends on which safety check station you go to, if they will pass or not? (It really depends on how well the station reads and understands to regulations)
But my initial reading of the regulations, I couldn't find any clear answer. (No real answer on how dark smoke lens would be allowed)
Seems like they would pass. "IF"?! You have passive Red reflectors on the rear of your vehicle and passive Amber reflectors on the front. Provided they are D.O.T. approved lights.

Tail lights need to be visible from 300 feet away or 100yrds.
"According to the Revised Ordinances of Honolulu, reflectors and lamps on motor vehicles are required to be visible from a distance of 300 feet, said Gary Tashima, a supervising motor vehicle inspector for the city. Using a cover "hampers the reflectivity of these lens" and thus would be illegal."
