The post showing the cabin air filter brings up a question. I'm a non-smoker, but I was faced with a situation the other day with a neighbor. He needed a ride downtown, so I told him to hop in. When he began fumbling with the seat belt, I realized he was drunk. A few blocks later, he pulled out a Marlboro.
I told him he couldn't smoke. I went on to explain that Toyota has a sensor that detects smoke in the cab, the engine shuts down. Got to air it out and wait 30 minutes before it will start back up, I added. I offered to stop and let him get in the bed if he just had to smoke. I didn't really care about the smoke, but my fear was he might drop his cigarette and burn a hole in my seat.
If you are a non-smoking Tacoma owner, do you let others smoke in your vehicle? A guy hates to be an asshole, but besides the smell, the lingering odor of cigarette smoke could potentially lower a truck's trade-in value.

Virtually nobody I know or are friends with smokes. :notsure:. Besides, I have no problem telling someone that that the interior of my truck is more important than their compulsion to inhale smoke.

You could always remind them that they are a guest in your truck and it's your rules or the highway. ;)

p.s. This doesn't belong in the 2nd gen section!

To me its not being an asshole, its your truck you choose who rides in it and what they do when they are in there. There is no smoking or eating or drinking (except water) in my truck and anyone who rides with me knows it up front. I pay the payment I make the rules

I once let a guy smoke in my old '95 S-10 and even then it was only cause he gave me 40$ for gas.

But in my Tacoma? It'll never happen as long as its my mine.

You have every right to tell people not to smoke in your truck or home.

I found it has NO effect on resale

Every vehicle I have ever owned was smoked in and never once during the sale or trade of any of them did someone say "Dude I'm going to give you $50 less because it smells like cigarette smoke"

I smoke in my truck, and not once has anyone ever gotten in a said it smelled like smoke. I couldn't careless about resale, b/c I'm probably going to have this truck forever. I myself dont trust other people and will not let them smoke in my truck. The one time my ex-gf drove my truck she smoked in it and burnt my seat. Now I'm reminded everyday why I dont let people smoke in my truck!
