I paid their internet price on my 17’ quicksand. But I was mainly focused on trade, and negotiated from here. I got probably 8% off sticker. For the longest time they didn’t have the market adjustment on it, and I was pretty close on trying before I decided on my current truck. I live right around the corner from there.

Most Americans can't afford a new car, study finds:

Experts cite the rising price of vehicles and the anemic growth of household incomes.

In a new study, Bankrate.com found that the typical American household in many of the U.S.’ larger cities doesn’t earn enough to afford the average new car. Trying to force the issue may stretch your budget too far and leave you in a tough financial spot.

Not surprised. A new Loaded Raptor costs more than my first house.

I still can't believe that for over 50K, you get a mid size truck without off-road tires

You think that is bad, try to find a Porsche GT2RS allocation.

Best I can find is $100k over sticker. And at that price I had people messaging me to get the deal as most dealers are asking $150k-$250k over.

Porsche does not prohibit dealer market adjustments and many Porsche dealers try to change it.

10.2 - can you provide additional details.

Re markups: I could be wrong but does Porsche allow heavy markups on first owner cars? I know they will really jack prices on those rare and sought after cars when they get them used or dealer 'demo'. But I thought jacking price on new was really frowned on.

Re discount: What additional details do you wish? Sticker with their ~$1000 fluff of protectants, treatments, tints, etc was a few bucks short of $40k. I took the difference from my negotiated price and that worked out to a smidge over 10%. My rig is pretty base without many add-ons. I'd been to the dealership once to see 'what's what' once and we came up with a decent deal on a '17 and site unseen price on my FJ. Color was wrong but I wanted to work the numbers. Over the next week a few trucks meeting my spec came and went while I emailed the sales guy I'd been working with. Not intentional, but the side effect was they knew I wasn't an impulse buyer. After life settled down a bit (about a week) I went back in with intent. They had what I was looking for but missing the blackout package. Turns out all that can be purchased after the fact and DIY. I knew where I wanted to be on numbers, and if it didn't work, oh well. They argued that this was an '18 and that's why the deal couldn't be as good. I argued politely 'that's ok'.... but these are the numbers that work for me. I think I ended up giving another $500 over my target.

I've always wanted my keys back so I could walk when and if necessary. But in retrospect here, I didn't ask for them. I just kept saying, "sorry, looks like it's not going to work out", or some iteration of that. That left them with either going back to the pit boss or going to get my keys which is basically them saying we're done. Turns out it worked well for me. This time. YMMV. Heck, MMMV next time. In the end, I was happy with the price I paid. I'm sure they made money on the sale, otherwise they would have said no.

Is that what you were looking for? Or did you want more vehicles details? I think I really only had the tech package plus their add-ons.

Getting an allocation for the 'rare and unique' is not a simple thing. You have to 'know a guy', and/or have a purchasing history with Porsche that warrants you getting one.

Anecdotally, one of my neighbors negotiated with his wife for some time on his desire for a Cayman GT4. He finally got approval only to learn that he was #27 on a list for ~12 allocations for the year. I may have the numbers a little off.... but the short version was he wasn't likely to get one from this dealer anytime soon.

Thanks. My first messsge should have read — some Porsche dealers charge it.

Porsche allows (one could say allows it by not prohibiting it) it on new cars. Many/most hard to get cars sell at MSRP but some do pay ADM/market adjustments.

Thanks for the info re your Tacoma purchase. I’m getting close to buying one and am still trying to figure out what I should pay.

Did your friend get a GT4? There are many available on the secondary market around MSRP.

Hasn't purchased. In the interim, he got involved in some investments he wants to complete before adding a car. I've seen super low mileage GT4's out there. Sometimes they're even a better deal when you can get them cpo. Roughly fair price, but an extended warranty.

Back to the 'corrrect' price for a Tacoma. With a Toyota that's not a pro or Supra or Land Cruiser, or something else crazy, there are so many I think you should get pretty close to invoice. $500-1000 over. Definitely the right time of year too. Walk in over the next few days and you may be able to hit invoice and sometimes a wee bit under. They get motivated so they don't have to pay the taxes on inventory.

I think the best way is to just respectfully let them know what works for you. And if it doesn't work for them, you're ok with that and they have to receive that message. They'll of course want to recoup or add-on in the finance department. You just need to know what you want and don't want.

BTW, 1.9% on financing. They tried to sell me upwards of $8500 on extended warranty and other stuff. I did take the 7yr/100k warranty plus wear and tear for roughly $1500. Again, they are like the house.... they always win in the long run, just not on every deal. I wasn't inclined to get an extended warranty because I usually use the GEICO MBI, but they included wear and tear.... not just true breakdown. So I thought it was worth it and went ahead; Toyota base warranty at 36/36000 is a bit weak.

I think the better question is:

Is the phone pole with climbing spikes that comes with the $5K "market adjustment" included in the $5K, or is that yer another "dealer prep" item at additional cost?

$10k market adjustment is marketing psychology, as well as some reality. You don't see it often, so when you do, some will naturally assume this is what the market bears. You can probably negotiate quite a bit off of that, particularly if it's been on the lot awhile. Then again, sometimes the dealer wins and some bloke pony's up.
