Wasn’t on a preorder list or anything but happened to hit the AutoNation website at the right time and scored one for $4k under MSRP—due to a computer glitch beyond the local dealer’s control (I clicked a link from their site that said to click to receive a lower price). Should arrive next month.

I think the only reason we’ve not seen any Trailhunter videos showcasing its off road speed running prowess is that they don’t want to eat into TRD Pro sales. In actuality, the full body skid plates and OME shocks mean that the Trailhunter is every bit as good as the TRD Pro model. There’s nothing “lower speed” about it versus the TRD Pro.

It'll be interesting to see how excited you are after you drive it for a while.

It's in writing--both from an express email offer below MSRP and receipt for deposit.

Yeah, I understand it seems crazy. But the actual circumstance was a computer error in the Autonation system. If you go on their websites, you can click a link that will allegedly get you a better price, but that is not supposed to be applicable on the TH and TRD Pro models. Well, the glitch here was that the Trailhunter was in the system but the stock photo was of a regular Tacoma and it sent me the attached email. I don't know why you'd think I would lie about it! I am just a lucky bastard here.

Sweet score. I was extremely happy getting MSRP w/o any added junk or mark ups! You have to be absolutely ecstatic! Local Autonation here told me long before either the Trailhunter or Pro pricing had come out that they'd be marking them up. That's SoCal for you!

Until you actually sign a contract, it means nothing. Don’t be surprised if they sell it to someone else for sticker++ and apologize for the error.

4K is amazing if they ultimately honor it. Guess you'll know for sure in a month.

Ahh, the ole "Computer glitch beyond our control" sales line......

Or they honor the price but installed LoJack, window tint, Resistall, and key service for $5,995 and label it “Auto Nation Consumer Protect”

Does everyone get abused in this community in this fashion? And I thought Tesla had a terrible community. Yeeeesh.

I am struggling with how much of the visceral resentment here stems from anger about the new price points…or is it something else?

    Yes and no:

Yes, this is an internet forum, and many of us can be pretty aggressive with the banter (myself included).

No, because this is not abuse. If you consider it as such, you might want to lurk more and post less. (Especially if you start complaining about it, it would get worse).

To give you an idea as to why you're getting some (mild) flak, lots of new posters have been popping up with unsubstantiated claims, particularly around the new generation, and until evidence is provided, these posts are met with an appropriate level of skepticism. When posters double down without proof, or fight back, then the level of banter skyrockets, in my experience.
