Just introduced myself to this fun

Does everyone end up getting rid of their studs for quality replaceable hardware?

pass side outer stud broke. Been spraying AeroKroil and 1min heat with MAPP but not as hot as oxy.

installed aFe Ypipe and it’s the worst fitting exhaust product I’ve ever seen.
Thread in the back is stripped too making stock springy bolt not actually torqued.
And front pipes don’t even have a sleeve to hold OE gasket.

extractor spins on the smooth stud. Thought about getting a $200 flux core welder to weld a nut on at home.
Maybe shield the area and MAP gas it more trying to not set anything on fire.

I think it goes part of the manifold so it’s not something that can easily be taken out to hair hammer in a vice

I wonder if there’s even a point to Ypipe when the cat and manifold pipes are still smaller. It does feel a bit more powerful and responsive though.

may stop by the dealer or find online hardware replacement kit to try making it slightly better
But probably gonna have to take it to an exhaust shop for a reroute
Apparently to aFe “reroute” means still going underneath to not clear a skid and forcing the catback to tilt down, hitting the heat shield and crossmember causing vibration, and needing benchpress pressure to install.

When I snapped a flange I just put in a regular bolt and nut and never looked back. Re-route I def went around then under for the real clearance.

Just make sure you keep your stock Y with you for the every 2-year dance.

I’m hoping that’s not needed. Early model not monitored. No CEL.

how’d you get the stud out?
Looks threaded in to me, likely siezed
So more likely to need unscrewing somehow rather than hammering straight out
Don’t know if it’s better to later on (when it’s out) drill the hole smooth to fit as thick of a bolt as I can

Or try to keep flange intact and choose next size down bolt to put in

You will need to keep the Y for any 2nd gen Tacoma. They will def get you if you try to go without it. If there is no CEL I would guess that someone tuned the codes out so you may want to have a tune with them back in with the stock Y or there is an O2 Sim of sorts in play. My last smog the guy was under the truck with a mirror and light looking for all the Cats and O2 sensors.

For the Stud I ended up just drilling it out. It was seized so bad. I tried everything and eventually snapped so I drilled it out. Basically put in a similar or slightly bigger bolt and washer and good to go as long as its not leaking that's all that really matters. Most if not all aftermarket headers I believe use bolt/nut combo instead of studs.

    It still has precats
I dont see how a sensor would trip out over secondary postcats, when they're located ahead of and not behind them

acid cleaned it to remove rust then painted black hi temp but yes this is genius
Once I figure out stud removal, replace/upgrade hardware
And either re install pushing up more or have an exhaust shop mess with it
May try pushing it up first

Won’t work unless you get lucky. It will not pass the visual inspection.
