Doing a CV axel replacement on my Tacoma. After taking the outer axel out the inner fell out from the knuckle. Im now looking at a full of grease cylinder that needs to come out of the slot in the differential for the new one to slide into.. I see no edges to even begin to pry on and I'm currently at a loss. Anyone been in this situation?

I'll give it a try once I've stewed on it all day at work. Thank you.

Make a lasso out of like 1/8" steel cable or some heavier duty electrical wire. Wrap that tightly around the 'base' of the stub close to the diff. Make a closed loop on the other end.

Now use a combination of a big pry bar as mentioned above, and someone else swinging a hammer (inside the closed loop) outward away from the truck. The combo of the steady force from the pry bar and the impact from the hammer / lasso deal should pop it out. Rotate whats left of the axle and try again if it doent work. Some people have really good luck and it practically falls out, others have to fight the whole way.
