This. Every time. Over torquing a lug will rarely break the stud from tension force. Those studs can take a huge amount of tension force. It's the friction/twist that usually causes the problem that leads to breaking a stud. OPs stud, at least what is visible, looks bone dry. Even some cheap, multi-purpose grease is probably good enough. Anti-seize is nice because even a couple years later, when it's all dried up and washed out, it will prevent galling better than grease.

Why didn't you go with the OEM stud for the same money? Also, I'd with a quality torque wrench over HF. Sunex, even Gearwrench over HF. Torque specs are fairly important, especially on steering and brake components. 85 ft lbs is very low but because the shoulder on the shank style lug nuts that's all you need. In fact, if you put the same amount of force on all the other lug nuts I'd replace all the studs with new. I'd assume more than a couple are compromised.

I think you'll be fine. Not stupid but rather a learning experience that's all. I like to use OEM parts as much as possible but most likely the doorman part meets requirements. I also thought of other possible compromise studs but wouldn't lose sleep over it. If it gave you a warmer fuzzy feeling about it you could go pick up a set from dealer. You know how the job is done now. I'd say don't sweat it.

While you or your garage is fixing it, i’d also take a real close look at the other studs to see if they look like they’re stretched or skinnier at any point. If one has stretched and broken, the others might be on their way too.

Everyone is talking torque. My question is was the lug cross threaded and then ham fisted? Much more likely to break the stud that way. Seen it happen a few times when the tire jock used the air gun to slam on the nut, not starting the nut by hand first and not using torque sticks.

OTOH just remember you have the high end Tacoma with 6 studs / lugs safety package. You can drive around on 5 safely for a while. I do it every day, because 5 is all mine came with. :anonymous:
