Got a package in the mail and was too excited not to share! We'll be posting more information and results from testing this on a variety of setups here very soon. This option will likely serve as the backbone to our upcoming "Stage 3" setup for those curious. Thought I'd share a little teaser as some of you might like to see what's coming.

    100% Bolt-in
100% Stock appearing (it uses the OEM housings)

    Stock Turbo Specs:

    • IHI SPEC VB51
    • Compressor Wheel 42.87mm x 58mm
    • Turbine Wheel 51mm x 40mm
    • Single sleeve bearing, no thrust bearing, dual piston rings on turbine end, single on compressor

    OEM Turbo Upgrade Specs:

    • Built on the OEM IHI SPEC VB51 housings w/ upgraded wheels
    • Comperssor Wheel 49.70mm x 67.40mm
    • Turbine Wheel 54mm x 48mm
    • Prototype variant uses the OE configuration CHRA. Production versions will come with a custom ball-bearing CHRA upgrade

So this wheel, some porting, and a CHRA upgrade ($300-500?). You'll sell a modded turbo with a core charge? Estimated cost?

As we're not the builders of these (we don't have the equipment), I would have to confirm, but based on the specs and pictures, it looks like that is the wheel.

As far as what this unit is, it would certainly appear that the CW shown is the one used here. Additionally, the compressor cover is machined to the new profile, the CHRA upgrade, turbine wheel upgrade, associated machining, porting, and VSR balancing make up the unit.

I'm told these will be available for outright sale and through a core exchange program. I don't have cost figures to share, but I figure it'll be in line with most OE modified units from other platforms. This unit was provided for testing and development purposes. If we give it a thumbs up, the manufacturer will move to make this an inventoried item.

Very interested in this. If you're moving from a sleeve bearing to a ball-bearing setup, you'll need to add an oil flow restrictor on the oil feed line. Otherwise you'll oversupply the bearings and result in oil leakage. I hope you take that into account.

All being handled, it'll be a turn-key drop in ready unit.

silly question, how difficult is it to remove the original turbo and replace with the remanufactured turbos.? Is all this done from up top.? I’m curious what are the parts that need to be removed to get to the turbo. Are you upgrading the studs Inconel/ Titanium those were always a weak point because of heat/ corrosion.

I will not be replacing the OE studs/hardware. I think the OE hardware is fine. However, it would not be difficult to upgrade the hardware on this install.

For the most part, the work is all done from the top. But there are a few things that you'll need to get under the truck/into the wheel well for. It's relatively easy. Attached are the FSM for the removal and installation. I'll also include a sheet outlining the part numbers for all the parts you'd need to fully build/assemble a replacement on the bench, allowing for a direct 1:1 swap.

For those not interested in a full swap, the turbine gasket, oil feed, oil return, and coolant feed/return gaskets are about all you'd need.

I've gone ahead and color coded the list to indicate what needs to be replaced (per Toyota) and what is "optional". Anything in RED is what Toyota indicates are required. Anything in GREEN is optional if you want or need to replace additional parts.

Yes, it would require a tune. We'll be offering it.
