Just get an alternator repair kit (brushes and voltage regulator). Much cheaper and less crap to lug around and easy enough to replace if you're taking the alternator out anyway. The rest of the alternator is just wire and magnets, not much that can go wrong there.

Oh boy, do we have another Eddie's stuck saga?

You gotta look it up for 2nd gen. I got mine off ebay. Get the part number for your alternator then find the brushes and voltage regulator that work for it.

I had tools, extra wheel bearing and a full sized spare in my bed, including digging and pulling gear in my truck. Never been to Wharton before but I've been wheeling for years.

Well my truck is working just the alt isn't :D for cheap Chinese eBay fog lights they held up better then expected. Got a new alt with a Lifetime warranty, she'll be sputtering through the mud in a few.

I will be surprised if the alternator was the only thing he killed...... you could have drove over and towed him to your house cuz we were all getting sick of pulling over every mile to charge him up lol

Is that really all it took to kill the alternator?

All this got me was a squeaky idler pulley:
    78569a48_3e82f53dcf2a475e8d08f9497cd383878d2a7aff.jpg

Took about 20 times of doing that in fhlarton to kill my alternator. And all it needed was a little cleaning up.

    1st gen FTW!
