You wouldn't have to cut into anything but that plastic between the windshield and hood. Fender can be left alone. Inlet Heat wouldn't be to bad considering it would be some sort of plastic material, like the rest of the under hood intake system. Attaching it to the pillar could still be a problem. I'm no engineer I just stick to aircraft avionics and electrical so maybe you are right.

Anyhow. Let's laugh at my crummy drawings. I got bored and drew this up on my Note 8 using the S-pen for the first time ever.

People that like to spend money on the truck and not the beer?

Plus it’s easier to drink a bunch of those while working on a truck than something 8+%. :D

It looks like a baby alien sprouting from the hood.

But seriously, there is another thread on here where a guy drills through the fire wall to intake just in front of the cabin intake. You get a lot more noise if you select fresh air option over recycle air but it looked like quite a bit of work and not as easy as FJ Cruisers do it.

Awesome. I am PBR or Natty Light and I agree for all the same reasons. My wife shuts down the 220V in the garage if am into something else so no air power or welding. It is amazing what I can still screw up with a screwdriver and hammer though.

As a desert nut, I would love to have one. I too think their ugly but so am I. :)

I do a little work with some peeps that need to have 100% reliability in the desert and they have snorkels on almost all of their vehicles - not for water crossings but for reducing dust.

Our trucks are weak in the water crossing department and as long as you don't have a silly CAI that was meant for a XRunner, water in the intake is one of the least of my concerns for water crossings. :)

While I kinda agree with you, I am doing this 100% for function and protection.
With large tires I had to remove my inner fender liners. With removed liners.. my stock Intake was exposed. So I switched to a K&N and made a "vent plate". Even with that mud/dirt/water is getting into my engine bay. Coupled with the fact My intake has a weird sound(common among K&N's) when I turn the wheel.
I can now go back to the stock air box(with drop in filter) and have the air inlet protected from road debris. I highly doubt I'll be submerging it in water that deep.
    Example why I need this:

I see your point, and that’s fair. With your skills, I think you should design your own. I agree the Safari ARB version looks like someone bolted a wood stove to the side of the truck.

All due respect but that is more of a restrictor plate. What about taking a fender liner and trimming one up so that it clears your tires but shields the intake? Other desert guys I know have 'socks' they put on theirs - acts like a pre-filter.

    Ask and ye shall receive
Not really restricted. The K&N filter inside is open element. If it was the stock air box..ya it would be restrictive.
Not feeling a condom, or a make shift shield. Going big with the BRO-SNORK.

That's why I now save the beer for after the project is finished.

Post-project beer is always a good, high octane variety.

When you get that post pics. I’m wondering how round that main tube is. That might work for mine too (I’d need to cut and rotate it).

Not sure if it’s just a ford thing, but these stealth snorkels are a cool idea. Wonder if there is room in the Taco?

Hmm. A stealth snorkel. That’s interesting. My fenders stick out so far I could put a little intake on top of the fender. Sure I couldn’t go windshield deep in water :)rofl:) but it would move my intake from being open in the wheel well.

    I might try that.
