Woah. Now that's a cleanly designed snorkel.

Yeah but then you’d have a heep. And a well designed snorkel would be the least of your worries.

I don't know, my brother's Rubicon kills my Tacoma off-road....but then a truck goes by on the opposite side of the street and it feels like you hit a brick wall of wind coming from the truck.

They are useless east of the Mississippi, no real dust out here. If you actually need it to not suck water in, the rest of your electrical system is borked. Total bro, style statement thing.

Why run a K&N filter if you are trying to keep dust out of your engine? That's a huge contradiction in itself.

Not denying their off-road ability. Day to day operations are a different story.

Because my stock intake hole was a huge water/mud collector. I figured if I blocked it off with a plate and put a new intake in the engine Bay less chance to suck water up. Here's the stock:

Why a K&N filter? They are famous for dusting turbo's in pretty much everything that has ever come with a turbo and famous on here for screwing up MAF sensors. A stock airbox and filter is going to give you pretty much the best protection from dust that you can get.

If you can get any sort of straight pipe up through the cowl area there you can get a inlet cap for under $30 and it will be like the RR one.

took this after replacing a dented one

And if AFE didnt screw themselves by selling the "TRD" design, K&N and their oiled up, maginal design probably wouldnt have been part of the TRD catalog.

My understanding is those oil-soaked foam filters (K&N, TRD etc) offer more airflow (horsepower?), at the expense of filtering. I’ve never heard they remove more dust, or offer better protection. I’m pretty sure it’s the opposite. I wouldn’t want one on my truck.

Serious question....what keeps the rain from just pouring in the open snorkel?

There is a drain hole in the airbox. The real issue is heavy snow and dust. Under those situations you want a top that can spin towards the back, 180 degrees from normal.
