I've considered making a custom molded snorkel for a while. That would allow me to make a much sleeker inlet/head piece. I think the most snorkels have kinda ugly heads. But....it's A LOT of work to do a custom molded piece and have it look really clean and professional. I think there are other more simple options that do the trick.

As for the fenders on the silver truck, the ones I have are a little different. The fenders on Zam15's truck are the 6" flared glassworks one so they are the biggest fenders glassworks offers for a 1st gen. IMO the 4.5" flare has cleaner lines and aren't quite so "in your face".

I hear you about time to do a custom molded snorkel. I have considered doing it because I think it would be a fun project but it would definitely be hard. Carbon fiber a fiberglass are fun to work with though. I have played with bike frames and gun stocks before and it has always been fun. I am sure if you went that route it would tun out nicely.

I love the fact Adam's glass and my glass are going on around the same time frame. I'm sure we will be sharing some advice because both will be tackling this issue. Run the truck without the snorkel until we figure something out. I do like the look of Derek's but curious how the hole would turn out on 4.5" glass... Really like the fact that it goes into the fender from the top as opposed to connecting the arb snorkel to the side. Tight trails on the east coast might rip off the snorkel body.

Love the CAI filter at the end of the second one.

The first one seems like it would get a lot of dust and even water splash being so far up on the truck.

I’m doing a similar build with 3.5” aluminum and some used McNeil bulged fenders.

I am learning as I go with this project and it seems the Safari snorkel ram air heads are engineered to dissipate rain water through channels and out of the bottom of the head.

Asking for opinions from the group on whether or not this design feature will work without the full Safari system. It seems like it should function the same way, but figured I’d ask before drop $116 on ORW.

Attached a picture of the current status of this project. I used the aircraft ducting from Aircraft Spruce.

Here’s the finished project. Not a showroom finish with the fiberglass, but I learned a lot restoring these fenders.
