There was no MPG improvement at all.

The snorkel simply relocates the stock intake from the fender well to cab height.

Less dust? Maybe.

Colder air? Maybe.

Worth the money and time invested in the modification? Maybe.

 

Yes I understand I'm just asking why every page of the thread until this one people are reporting improved mpg and all of a sudden on this page everyone is in agreement that there is no improvement. As if the users got together and talked about it then came to post, I just don't see the transition. Or perhaps people were just driving easier for better mpg or perhaps the ecu learned the new setup and went back to stock.

Okay, well darn. A snorkel is something I would definitely have installed if it showed lasting improvement in mpg. Oh well. Thanks for keeping such a good log so people like me can read up on it. +1

 

I was being a bit facetious.
Truth is Devin, driving habits will affect MPG far more than a bolt on snorkel.
But if you want a lot of public attention it's an excellent mod.

Funny, it's threads like this that have or had so many people basically claiming it's settled , snorkel is an easy 2 mpg. Glad to see that has been understood to be a premature and false conclusion.

It's simple a fact that a snorkel or any kind of intake that allows more air in can make more power but none will improve mpg. The conventional wisdom that modifications that increase power will increase mpg if you don't use the power is just false. Full throttle power increases don't have anything to do with part throttle driving that most of us do 95% of the time. A nearly closed throttle plate nullifies any upstream intake mods.

For awhile everyone that bought a drop in aFe pro-dry or K&N claimed the same 1-2 mpg gain, but later most came to conclude any gains were wishful thinking.

Ecomodding sites don't even list intake mods as mpg improvers unless it's about hot air intakes.

 

That's why I was so interested in this thread, because my research has led me to the same conclusion you're stating: the only way to improve mpg via intake is hot air. It was probably just people driving easier so as not to mess up the testing, ironically.

Will a warm air intake heat soak the engine or is it a safe mod?

 

I've never made one, but I'm assuming it would be pretty difficult to over do it and cause problems. More sophisticated ones would only use hot air during warmup or low ambient temperature.

I'm happy with my free driving improvements.

 

Pretty sure it was this thread i said with the amount of added friction to the air through the snorkel would cancel out any addition of cold air, or worse. Looks great though and nice to have something most people dont

 

I'll say this: with the snorkel my intake air temp is the same as the outside ambient air temp as displayed by the Sport overhead console and my ScangaugeII...
