I'd give yourself at least 4 - 6 hours to complete the install. Take your time and do it right. This is a mod you don't want to rush, so if I was you i would just do it on the weekend.

Seems like i'm getting better mileage now, but i've only run two tanks since i've installed the snorkel. I'm gonna run a few more tanks before i pass judgement though. I'll report back.

Well right now i'm averaging a tad under 16 mpg with 70 % highway driven. I'm hoping mileage will increase to 17 mpg or better. Key word is Hope but time will tell.

Hey said this in the CO BS thread but I have the hole saw needed for that and plenty of experience if you want some help. You can check mine out first too before you head down that path.

Beer and a shot. Helps to kill the pain of cutting into the fender.

I am close to topping off my 48" with a 3" lift. No way in hell would a 48" work with a 6" lift offroad.....maybe on road. I think everyone should get a 60" regardless of lift. If you ever need to use the winch kit youll be glad you have a 60".

    ^^True indeed.

And unless you start strapping the axle up, any mods to the rear suspension will render a 48" almost useless on the rear...

So this weekend, Eric (CoTacoTRD) and I are gonna install my snorkel. We are gonna see if it is possible to go directly from the snorkel to the intake without having so many bends. Im going to have to look more closely at the engine bay, but with my 09, we dont have all that crap on the passenger side to get in the way. Im trying to have only 1 90 degree turn from the snorkel to the exhaust pipe, then straight line it into the intake.

I attached what i think it will look like. Red lines are gonna be the new intake tube.

Im hoping that after we cut the snorkel there will be enough of the actual "plastic" left for us to clamp onto. Do any of you know if it would be possible to fit the new intake tube inside of the snorkel outlet? Does what i said make any sense? I have it in my head, but hard time explaining it. attached are what im thinking using paint.

Let me knwo what you think or if you have a wuestion on my terrible description/drawing skills

I have an 09 and I first ran it to my CAI, then I changed that for a different method using the stock intake piping, then I changed it again.

I am lost on why your plan is the way it is. Your diagram is going to make you cut a hole in the side of your truck then again in the side of the engine bay, one is already there. Next question is why worry about the bends, get a mandril bend and your fine. Or use your stock intake pipe. I put up a link that has an adapter that will allow you to use your stock intake pipe with the snorkel and a simple mate piece.

Next my question is why you would want to run a tube inside the snorkel, its already going to reduce the amount of airflow, you dont want to make it worse, and how at that point would you water proof it? What would you attach it to inside to keep if from being removed, and if you do attach it you will need a way to separate for service.

I suggest you start off with the stock intake, trim the end, and buy the adapter for 11 dollars. Then run that and youll be happy. If you really still want to reduce the bends then you can go the other route but I doubt you will...

Also I keep in mind the engine moves and if you make a strait pipe it will have stress on it....

GeoTaco we will talk more on Saturday about what you want to do. I believe what these guys are saying is true and no your red lines will not work. But we can eliminate a couple of the bends.

    IMO
truck crumple zone or not the minute you installed the snorkel on the outside you rendered this crumple zone ineffective. So cutting an additional hole will really not hinder this much more.

Don't worry we will get it done right, solid, and more effective. :D

Are you an engineer? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but unless you are a statement like that should not be provided as if it is fact.

The outer fender is NOT a crucial the part of the crumple zone. The crucial part of the crumple zone is what you cut into on your instal. I would never cut any additional holes into that beam. It is the most rigid part or the upper front portion of your truck.

Try telling a lawyer who is suing you that your modification to a structural element of the engine bay is fine without supporting statements.

Be safe and just use it as it was intended.

I'm not trying to start any wars. I just wanna see members install this stuff correctly and for them to have great overall experience with this equipment.
