Looking into doing a snorkel on my DCLB and was wondering what all do I need to make that happen and which snorkel to go with I know there are a few companies just wondering what everyone is going with on the 2nd gen tacoma. Open to all suggestions.

I went with Dobinsons. Been great for the few years I've had it.

I have Airflow. It's the lowest profile of the bunch.
I've had it for maybe 4 years I absolutely love it.

Other than looking absolutely phenomenal; what are the advantages and disadvantages to a raised air intake?

Dust reduction into the air box primarily. Op, where are you located? I have one off my 09 that is the oh safari snorkel from the hilux. Super low profile compared to most out now

Stick with the hilux, less obese and gets the job done. ARB is the original manufacturer of the snorkel so they know a thing or two.

    Is it really needed though
I mean like, if I had an OnlyFans?
    I'd get ARB.

But otherwise. It's $500+ for a plastic tube...
I mean it's essentially a drinking straw for air. That connects to the airbox as a pipe. That is a sealed unit. It looks like an A/C vent you buy at Home Depot.
So why should it be $500+...

I've heard a lot of people using knockoffs on eBay, similar design, $150
    that seems bearable
    not $500...

Plus you gotta think. This isn't a "one mod and done" vehicle. They get many mods. And if each mod costs that much?
Well man you must have an OnlyFans...

For me it was needed, as to prevent hydrolocking the engine. With larger tires and no inner fender liner water and dust gets flicked up there, it 's not a sealed unit. Without the snorkel, the factory air filter will be spent in short time. I agree it is pricey, but the ARB material is quality and doesn't fade with exposure to sunlight and for the 10+ years I've been dragging it through hitting branches and the like it has held up great.

For me, $500 is cheaper than hydrolocking or dusting an engine, but YMMV. I don't have an OF yet, but I do have a youtube channel which generates laughs at my expense.

98.4% Positive feedback - it must be good!

I've seen people run this. No idea if they've actually gone in deep water though...

That may be a viable option, but I have no direct experience to give feedback on. I was one of the first dozen or so people to install the snorkel on my truck way back when. The model I have is actually made for a hilux but fits decent on our trucks, just have to silly cone some gaps up. Curt at Cruiser Outfitters was the first vendor to offer the hilux with a tacoma specific template. At the time of my purchase, none of the aftermarket stuff was available so I didn't have much choice of a product if I wanted a snorkel. Just like when a patent expires, knock offs come out the woodwork.

I am confident in my setup and i've had it over the hood with no issues. I did a vacuum test after the initial install, if it's good enough to stall the engine, it's good enough to prevent water from being sucked into any connections.

I wonder how they drain water if some accidentally gets in
like driving in the rain with top inlet facing forward

The head uses the venturi affect to direct water out of the inlet. Works similar to an air ejector. If a little makes it through, the filter may get damp but after a while, enough air passing through should dry it out. Driving in the snow is really what kills them since it will clog the intake, then eventually melt and makes its way down there. I usually reverse the head when it's supposed to snow.
